[Set: During The Gilded Cage]

"I think you'll make an excellent king," A small voice said from beside Jaren as the two of them sat through the night.

"I'm glad you think so Ori, I just hope I will be." Jaren muttered as he comfortingly rubbed Ori's shoulder, who was leaning on Jaren.

"Why would you not be?" Ori asked. It was late at night but Ori had decided it was time for some special bonding time between Flox (A/N: is that the pet's name?) and Jaren. The bonding time had started with a game of very cautious fetch, in hopes no one else would wake but then they all fell tired, which resulted in Flox falling asleep at Jaren's feet.

"I don't know, what if nothing changes?" Jaren quietly said, knowing he probably shouldn't be telling Oriel these things but in a way, Ori was his brother and he knew Ori would still love him.

"It doesn't matter if things don't change right away. Just as long as you try, people will see that's enough." Ori kindly said which made Jaren feel much better even though it was not a long conversation.

"Ori, When did you get so amazing?" Jaren asked him extremely seriously which had caused Oriel to laugh. Jaren joined in pretty quickly.

[Set: After the day out with Kiva]

"I noticed you cleared out your entire day." Caldon said as he looked across from Jaren.

Jaren thought for a moment before he replied, " I couldn't let her feel trapped."

Caldon seemed to take it in as he grabbed a chocobun. Jaren knew that while Kiva hadn't liked the idea of early morning training, it was necessary for her physical health and mental health. It also looked like Caldon had noticed it too as if Kiva was finding herself trapped again. Possibly in something more than a cage.

"I think she'll soon find her way." Caldon wisely mused.

"I really hope she does, she shouldn't have had the life she's had so far." Jaren darkly noted.

"Look, you can't change the past but you could help her shape her future." Caldon had a point. Jaren was fortunate that it was in his power to change her life. He wanted to, he so badly wanted to but he couldn't scare Kiva. She had already sacrificed so much for freedom and for not only herself but other inmates and Tipp.

"I know but... that place is horrible and she's so kind to everyone. She gave everyone a chance at life." Jaren quietly said before continuing on. "She didn't not help someone fight for life, she gave the worst type of people a chance at survival and she didn't choose who she'd help. She helped everyone."

"That's what makes her special... If she can give everyone a chance inside a death prison, you know she'll try and do what's right for everyone." The way Caldon said it was like he was talking about something else. Like he knew something he didn't but it was also very much true.

"Just try to help her through this hard time and she won't feel trapped." Caldon added.

[Set: After the cliffhanger]

It was the day after Mirry's party.

And it was utter chaos.

Some might say it was even pain.

Jaren was lost, confused and destroyed, like every little bit of him was washing away till he was laid out bare, forced to face the world.

Jaren had woken up alone and in so much pain. The pain was hundreds of times worse than the time he was whipped and tortured. He didn't feel like himself and he could tell something was wrong, he couldn't remember the last evening. Jaren also hadn't woken up in the Palace, he was in one of the safe houses but as to why he didn't know.

"She's been taken away, you know" A voice said behind his bed.

Then everything suddenly came back to him. Kiva. Mirry. Zuleeka. Naari lying in a pool of blood. The knife stabbing into his heart before being ripped out of his chest. Then unconsciousness

"Where is she?" Jaren anxiously demanded the voice. He attempted to turn around yet it strained too much, forcing him to stay in bed. Fortunately, the voice walked over to Jaren. Slightly, Jaren relaxed when Naari came into his sight.

"Kiva? She's gone." Naari said vaguely but her tone implied she was sure. Almost immediately Jaren realised which side Kiva had taken. It wasn't his. The pain grew in his chest.

"What happened?" He asked, not meaning about Kiva. A lengthy silence filled the air before Naari breathily sighed out loud.

"Caldon told me the rebels now have the Royal Ternary, the Eye of the Gods wasn't with Ashlyn- it was with Kiva's grandmother. She's dead now and your mother has had to give the Queen's Signet across to the Rebels." Naari informed him with some sadness. Anger burned through him.

"Why did Mother have to give the ring over?" Jaren asked, his eyebrows furrowed with confusion while his insides started boiling.

"I- umm... It's errr..." Naari fumbled for words.

"Naari. Tell me why." Jaren demanded, ignoring the pain in his chest as his voice rose.

"Your sister," Naari spat the title out like filth. "Was teamed up with the rebels for quite some time now. It was only so simple to threaten her for the ring." As Jaren heard it, he was furious. Not only Kiva had betrayed him, but now his own sister had.

"Why am I here?" Jaren continued asking but he feared he knew why.

"As the rebels have taken over, which was only announced early morning, the palace is no longer safe. Your family, minus Caldon, is still there speculated to be held captive but that isn't yet confirmed. I dragged you here to the furthest safe house I could get to by horseback but we'll need to move you soon." Naari informed him.

"If Caldon isn't at the palace, where is he?"

"He's off scouting. Left early in the morning, absolutely furious about all that's happened." Naari said. She somehow managed to keep her voice steady now but for how it'd last, she wasn't sure.

"Is there any news where Tipp is?" Jaren asked as the pain grew larger and larger, slowly consuming him.

"He never made it to the party. We've had contact with Rhessinda that she's with him and Torell." Jaren didn't know what to make of it.

"And Kiva is... She was sent off back to Zalindov." Naari ever so quietly added, knowing fully well he didn't want to speak about her. It still pained him to know she was off to one of her worst nightmares and he didn't give her a second chance.
