Hey guys! Most of you have read the previous one of these, a Finntaine oneshot I wrote a while back. Recently I discovered that I'd started an Anteline version, and I got an urge to finish it. So without futher adieu, enjoy this version of Anteline: Perspectives xx
~~~~~~
Chapter info: Another character study, essentially the same. I would strongly recommend you read the Finntaine perspectives chapter if you haven't already before you read this one. Ant is 14 at the start of the series, but it doesn't stay there for long. Brief intro and then a jump to 16 year old Ant. Maddy is also 16, older than him slightly. I will write in when they get older.
~~~~~~
Ant is a 12 year old boy. For him, the maximum amount of emotions he feels in a day are pretty simple: Excitement, anger, or happiness. There was rarely others, and certainly none more complicated than those.
So the first time Ant meets Maddy, he pin points what he's thinking pretty quickly.
Ant hates her. He hates her loud, annoying voice. Hates her fake attempts at being a 'pirate' because he's pretty sure she doesn't even know what a pirate is. Something he makes clear when he reminds her that she has none of the proper qualities of a pirate.
Ant hates her even more when she actually has the audacity to respond, and mock him in return. How dare she demand to know anything about Lemuria? That had taken his family months and years of searching to find. Ant decides he hates her for being lazy, too, and on top of that, he hates her for not thinking for herself.
Mad Madeline is loud, annoying, rude, selfish, lazy, and stubborn. She is everything that Ant is not. And he will never, ever, think otherwise. First impressions count, right? Ant's first impression? A life long hatred and disgust for a stupid pirate who thinks she's better than everyone.
~~~~~~~
Playing a pirate is fun.
Maddy has always enjoyed mocking people, annoying them, and trying to copy her Dad when it comes to 'being piratey'. Finn doesn't care as much as she does, but really, she just wants her father to be proud of them. It's why she's always the one to try and make Finn look good, and include him when they have to actually be the bad guys every now and then.
Nothing had ever made Maddy feel inferior, or wrong, for being a pirate. Nothing until Antaeus Nekton.
It was supposed to be a simple mission: Finn gets information from them, and her family finds the valuable stuff. Instead, Fontaine freaking Nekton and her dumb brother manage to send Finn flying, and the whole crew has to get involved over a freaking Lava Volcano to fix his screw up.
As if that wasn't bad enough? The entire crew somehow fails.
Of course her Dad is going to want revenge, and is going to take it as soon as possible. And yes, she's on his side, because they needed that stuff. And it was fun to have that kind of thing for once, instead of useless treasure hunts across the ocean that waste expensive fuel and cost them more than they ever gain. So when they capture the entire Nekton family on their sub, Maddy thinks that finally, things might be about to start looking up.
Instead? Ant mocks the crap out of her for her 'not piratey enough' appearance. And sure, normally that wouldn't be enough to make her hate someone more than she already does. But Ant is an entirely different kettle of fish. He's the genius freak who knows he's smarter than everyone, but also thinks he's smarter than everyone.
Ant's the kind of person who thinks he's better than her family because his parents are rich. Ant's the kind of person who looks down on her because of who her family is. Ant thinks he's so great, but he's loud, obnoxious, selfish and rude. Ant is a total jerk, and Maddy doesn't need any help or special smarts to figure that out.
