Chapter Two: The Beginning
The ten of us stood there, waiting for anything to happen to get us started. But nothing. We waited there for 5 minutes for nothing.
Finally, Karina spoke up, "Sooo, how 'bout we introduce ourselves. I'll start, I'm Karina. "Ace," I locked eyes with the messy-haired glasses guy. "Jane." "Clara." "I'm Lizzie!"
The messy-haired glasses guy started to speak, "I'm Chase. This is Hayden, Maxwell, Dexter, and Evan." "I go by Max," he corrected his friend.
We all nodded and waved, as an awkward silence fell over us.
"Should we... put our stuff in our cabins?" "What a novel idea," I picked up my bags. All ten of us headed to our designated cabins, knowing which one was who's based on the huge letters saying "GIRLS" or "BOYS".
"That was awkward," Clara set her bag down on the bed across from mine. None of us needed to discuss, we just silently chose our spots. Jane shrugged, "At least their cute." "Why couldn't we have been out with five other girls for a year?" Lizzie was laying down on her bed already. I looked at her, "Why did we have to be here with anybody for a year?... But yes, girls would've been nice." We shared a smile.
Karina started for the door, Jane raised her eyebrow, "Where are you heading off to?" "It's only 3 o'clock," she glanced at the clock above her bed, "and I want to check this place out. Especially if it's our new home for the year." Lizzie groaned as we all stood up, knowing she had a smart point.
The five of us headed to the mess hall first, and the boys were all in there too. The one named... Dexter? Was eating a bag of chips already. No wait, Hayden. Not Dexter. Dexter was the one that Jane just sat next to at one of the tables.
I walked by everyone and into the kitchen, Chase and Max were standing there having what seemed to be an argument. "You're completely wrong! Watch the show and you'll see why I'm right," Max told the other boy. They both turned to me as I walked in. I stood there for a second wondering if I should've not walked in. I saw Max's eyes glance at my shirt, my Star Wars shirt. "Ace, right?" I nodded. "I'm assuming you like Star Wars?" I smiled, "Yeah, the one with the pointy-eared guy, right?" I saw his face slightly drop. "I'm kidding. I love Star Wars, why?" He smiled and pointed to Chase, "This guy over here says movie Anakin is better than Clone Wars Anakin." I dropped my jaw dramatically. "In my defense, I've only seen the movies!" "Are you kidding, you've got to watch the shows. Especially if you're going to argue this," I said. He looked at me, "I don't know, it's animated and..."
"This is a pretty bad first impression," I shrugged walking over to find a snack. "I won't mind spending a whole year with you," Max says, putting out his fist. "Thank you," I said, as we fist bumped. Chase jokingly groaned as we all made our way back to everyone else.
"Hey, we were thinking about going down to the lake. You wanna come?" Clara asked the three of us. "Sure!" Max agreed. Clara looked at me for an answer, "No, thank you!" "Come on, it'll be fun," Jane tried to convince me. "Or we could all die from water snakes," I have a huge fear of snakes. And I'm not risking it. "Fine, you?" Clara looked towards Chase. "Oh, um, no thanks. I'll stay here with her." "Whatever, losers. Let's go!" Dexter said, he and the rest of them left the building, leaving just Chase and I here.
"So... Wanna go to the library?" He awkwardly asked me. I smiled, "Sure!"
*A/N: Next chapter is going to be them at the library because I just felt like it needed its own chapter 🤞*
