Chapter Fifteen: The Disappearing Dance Pt. 1
It's been a month. It's been a month since I've kissed Chase on the cheek.
We never talked about it again. I told the girls about it and they freaked. Obviously never letting me live it down.
Nothing has happened between us since then. Can't say I'm glad about that.
I step outside, the morning of September first.
"Oh, god..."
I stop at the sight of a giant dance floor. Uniforms in front of my feet. They aren't our usual uniforms. They each look different form one another. I grabbed the one labeled with my name and I turn back into my cabin.
I walk into the kitchen after getting ready. There was a list of things I needed to do: curl my hair, put it in a ponytail, put on makeup, put on the uniform. The uniform is a long, flowy, light purple dress. It is very comfortable and light.
Lizzie and Jane walk into the mess hall, they're the last two to wake up. We've been waiting to read the game all together.
All the girls are wearing similar dresses. Each are a different color and have a small difference in detail. The boys are all wearing white short-sleeve button ups, loosely fitted dress pants, and dress shoes. Their pants match our dresses. I'm assuming we match with our partners for today's game.
Clara is the one to read the game, found in an envelope on the table
"You all have been invited to your first forest dance. As you might have guessed, you are color-matching your dance partner. Keep in mind the color of your outfits. It'll help you win the game. Now go on the dance floor and you'll figure out the rest of it. Have fun!"
"Okay, so we don't even know what the game is," Hayden complains.
"Yes, we do. Dance!" Dexter runs out of the door. We all follow him.
My dance partner is Chase, what a surprise. I think these game makers know what happened.
We look for any other instruction on how to play the game. Nothing. How are we supposed to play this?
"Maybe one of us has to step on a square, it might set something off starting the game," Hayden suggested.
"Who's willing to do that?" Clara asked.
"I will," I shrugged walking closer to the floor.
"No, I'll do it," Chase stops me.
Before I can stop him he steps on one of the squares. The square lights up a yellow color. We all stand there for a second, unsure if anything is going to happen. Then the square blinks and Chase disappears. I mean he's gone. No where to be seen.
"Chase?" I question worrying.
I walk up to the dance floor. Looking for him. Maybe if I touch the square it'll bring him back. Or it might make me disappear, too. I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn to see Evan.
"Don't touch it. You might disappear."
I nod. I should've been the one to disappear, though. It's my fault Chase has.
