Y/N sat alone at the beautifully set dinner table, the room enveloped in a heavy silence. Her husband, Tsukauchi Naomasa, had been consumed by his demanding job for weeks, leaving her feeling neglected and isolated. The fragrant aroma of the prepared meal filled the air, but the absence of Naomasa's presence cast a shadow over the room.

Restless, Y/N picked up her phone once again, hoping for a message that would never arrive. Each passing minute intensified her frustration and worry. Doubts began to creep into her mind, suffocating her with questions. Was he cheating on her? Did he no longer love her? Why was he avoiding their shared meals?

Unable to bear the silence any longer, Y/N texted Naomasa for the umpteenth time, desperation creeping into her words. She placed the phone on the table, her heart sinking as the screen remained devoid of any response.

Just as despair threatened to overwhelm her, her phone vibrated, jolting her from her thoughts. With a mixture of hope and trepidation, she looked at the screen, discovering that it was Makoto, Naomasa's sister, calling.

"Hello?" Y/N answered, her voice tinged with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety.

"Hey, Y/N," Makoto said with concern in her voice. "Is Nao with you?"

Y/N's heart sank, knowing the answer before even speaking it. "No, he hasn't been home for dinner in a while."

Makoto's voice held a tinge of worry. "That's strange. He mentioned going out for dinner this evening."

Y/N's mind raced, fueled by suspicions and uncertainty. "He never told me anything about it. I've been waiting here for over an hour."

Makoto's voice softened. "Maybe he's still working. He's been putting in a lot of overtime lately. Try not to stress too much, alright?"

Y/N let out a sigh, her shoulders slumping. "I'll try," she replied, gratitude laced in her voice. "Thanks, Makoto."

After hanging up, Y/N finished her dinner alone, the taste of each bite accompanied by a lingering bitterness. The clattering of dishes seemed to amplify the emptiness that surrounded her. Lost in her thoughts, she trudged upstairs to take a quick shower, hoping to find solace in the water's embrace.

As the warmth of the shower enveloped her, thoughts of Naomasa being with someone else raced through her mind. Deep down, she knew that he wouldn't betray her, but there was a persistent nagging of doubt that refused to dissipate.

After drying herself off, Y/N threw on her favorite cozy pajamas and curled up on the bed. She stared at the ceiling, her mind filled with swirling thoughts and emotions. Sleep began to beckon her, its tender touch lulling her into a state of half-awareness.

Just as she was drifting off, the sound of the front door opening cut through the silence. A small ray of light spilled into the room as Naomasa entered, casting shadows against the walls. He moved toward their shared bed, his footsteps soft and hesitant.

Y/N slowly opened her eyes, finding him sitting at the edge of the bed, his gaze filled with a mixture of relief and exhaustion. His fingers reached out, tenderly brushing strands of hair away from her face.

"Sorry, darling. Did I wake you?" he asked, a small, apologetic smile gracing his face. "I'm sorry for coming home so late."

"Nao, where have you been?" Y/N questioned, her voice a mixture of longing and concern.

He hesitated, his eyes searching for the right words, torn between revealing the truth and shielding her from the weight of his burdens. "I've been working overtime, love. I'm sorry I couldn't be home for dinner."

Confusion clouded her expression. "But Makoto told me that you mentioned going out for dinner."

Naomasa's surprise was evident, followed by a sense of resignation as he averted his gaze. "She must have misunderstood. I promise, I've been at the station, dealing with a complicated case. Trust me, Y/N."

Y/N looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mix of sadness and vulnerability. "I wanted to trust you, Nao, but the doubt crept in. I thought you might be cheating on me."

He reached out, gently wiping away a tear cascading down her cheek. "I would never betray your trust, my love. Even if the world offered me riches, my heart belongs to you."

"Stay with me, please?" Y/N pleaded, her voice barely a whisper.

Naomasa climbed into bed, enveloping her in his arms, a refuge from the storm of doubts and insecurities. "I'm not going anywhere, Y/N. I'll never leave you. I promise."

She rested her head on his chest, finding solace in the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Slowly, the weight of her worries dissipated, replaced by the warmth of his embrace. In the sanctuary of their love, she succumbed to the embrace of a peaceful slumber.

Naomasa gazed down at her sleeping form, a soft smile playing on his lips. He carefully extricated himself from her grasp, mindful not to disturb her. Moving to the edge of the bed, he leaned over and placed a tender kiss on her forehead.

"Sweet dreams, my love," he whispered, a quiet promise lingering in the air.

As the room fell into a gentle silence, Naomasa's heart swelled with determination. He knew he had to work harder to bridge the gap that had formed between them. Love, trust, and open communication would be their guiding lights, ensuring that their unspoken promises were heard and cherished.
