Leighton had a plan. First on the list was getting drunk as a skunk. Second on the list was forgetting about Eli and third on the list was finding a guy to help Leighton move on from Eli; just a one night stand.
“Is this how you spend every Friday night?” Stefan asked as they stood in the middle of the huge and very crowded backyard. The DJ was set up in the corner and his booth flashed all the colours of the rainbow.
Every person present at the party was drinking out of bright flashing cups that matched their attire. In fact Leighton was the only one dressed in black apart from Stefan. It was her funeral dress, and the only colour that was matching her mood.
“Not every weekend,” Leighton replied before sculling the fluoro green beer that tasted awful but of course there wasn’t anything else alcoholic to drink, and Leighton was determined to get drunk.
It was the only way Leighton could temporarily stop thinking about Eli and how he broke her heart; shattering it into millions of pieces in the process. It made Leighton feel pathetic for falling for his act and for blindly living a lie.
“You might want to slow down,” Stefan urged. He didn’t feel like babysitting a drunken Leighton all night. He especially didn’t want to hold back her hair while she threw up over a toilet.
Stefan wanted to have a fun night with Leighton. He wanted to prove that he was a decent guy and not a creep. Most of all he wanted to mend their relationship and gain Leighton’s trust.
“Oh come on drink with me and have some fun old man,” Leighton smirked, “I mean vampire,” Leighton added in a whisper.
“Leighton you can’t say that out loud,” Stefan urged.
“Looks like you have this under control,” Damon rolled his eyes and he and Elena navigated through the sea of bodies and approached the drunken Leighton.
“I do,” Stefan objected, “Leighton just needs to let off some steam that’s all,” Stefan added to his defence.
“Let’s dance,” Leighton dropped her empty cup on the ground, grabbed Stefan’s hand and dragged him away to the group of gyrating bodies in front of the DJ’s booth.
Elena couldn’t help but feel frustrated. They were meant to be watching out for Leighton and keeping her away from danger. Stefan was screwing up the plan and Elena knew exactly what was happening.
“Let’s do this, go to college for a few years it will be fun,” Damon took Elena’s hand.
“Are you serious right now?” Elena asked surprised. Damon didn’t seem like the type to waste his time in class.
“You can do the classes for both of us while I do all the drinking,” Damon smirked and Elena couldn’t help but laugh.
“Or you can go to both our classes and I can do all the drinking,” Elena smiled mischievously.
“You don’t have the stomach my dear,” Damon teased.
“Oh really?”
“Really, so what are we going to do about the alcoholic grinding all over my brother?” Damon asked. As bad as it sounded Damon was hoping Leighton didn’t last much longer. The last thing he wanted to do was babysit for the next 70 years.
Damon wanted to have fun with Elena. He wanted to travel and have Elena all to himself. The doppelganger drama was meant to be finished and not beginning all over again.
“Make sure she doesn’t pass out and swallow her vomit,” Elena crossed her arms unimpressed by Leighton’s behaviour. Why couldn’t Leighton just watch depressing movies and eat ice-cream like every other girl.
“I’m sure Stefan can manage that,” Damon smirked as he pulled Elena closer towards him.
“Shouldn’t Elijah be here? I mean is he really just giving her over to us?” Elena worried. They had heard the fight and Elena had seen the heartache on Leighton’s face.
“He’s probably just giving her some space to cool down plus he knows she is safe with you.”
“Safe with us,” Elena corrected him and Damon just shrugged. He didn’t hate Leighton but he did resent her for being alive and screwing with his life and there was no point hiding it.
“Is there nothing I can do to change your mind about Leighton?” Elena asked as she inched her face closer to Damon’s, her lips just hovering inches away from his.
“How about I let you try and convince me?” Damon smirked as he tucked some of Elena’s hair behind her ear.
Leighton’s plans were falling into place. The liquor was finally taking control and Leighton couldn’t even remember why she was so determined on getting drunk in the first place. All Leighton needed was her one night stand to fully complete her list and she decided on Stefan.
He was cute and it meant Leighton didn’t have to waste her time finding another guy plus Stefan seemed interested or maybe it was just the alcohol playing tricks on her mind.
Time to find out. Leighton decided as she quickly wrapped her arms around Stefan’s neck and pressed her lips against his. Stefan instantly pulled away. There was no way he was going to take advantage of a liquored up Leighton who was clearly off her face.
“You need some water and maybe a coffee,” Stefan gently grabbed Leighton’s arms and moved them back by her side.
“Are you gay?” Leighton asked with a hand on her hip. Now she was going to have to find someone else to have meaningless sex with.
“What?” Stefan couldn’t help but laugh, “No I’m not gay. In fact I have morals which is why I’m not taking advantage of you.”
“You know what I heard when you spoke? I’m a pansy ass little bitch, blah, blah . . . Blah!” Leighton snapped as Stefan grabbed her shoulders and steadied her before Leighton had the chance to fall over.
Leighton didn’t usually act like a bitch but the mix of alcohol and heartbreak was bringing out a new side of Leighton, one that had never been seen before not even by Leighton who was too drunk to notice.
“This is how you take care of her?” Elijah couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He could smell Leighton’s breath which stunk of beer even with her back facing him. He knew he shouldn’t have let her out of his sight.
They’re a bunch of morons! Elijah silently seethed.
“We are leaving Leighton,” Elijah ordered.
Leighton didn’t answer with words, instead she kissed Stefan again making sure to use lots of tongue. Before Elijah showed up Leighton had finally buried the pain that made her want to scream whenever Eli crossed her mind, and now it was back worse than before.
Elijah had to hold back the growl as he grabbed Leighton’s shoulder and stopped the kiss before Stefan had the chance to pull away. Elijah wanted to rip Stefan in half and the only thing stoping him was the crowd of drunken young adults.
“Don’t touch me!” Leighton screamed and recoiled from Elijah’s touch as if he had caused her physical pain when in reality it was all emotional. Leighton didn’t want to be anywhere near Elijah; at least not yet.
Luckily everyone was too busy drinking and dancing to care about the drama unfolding in front of their very eyes. “Leighton please let me explain,” Elijah begged.
“We can’t do this here we need to go somewhere else,” Elena tried to handle the situation. Elena and Damon made sure not to use their vampire speed; not that any of the humans would have noticed although they couldn’t take the chance.
“You know what, Elena is right take me somewhere else now,” Leighton ordered Stefan.
“You go anywhere with her and I will kill you myself,” Elijah threatened and of course Damon immediately got in Elijah’s face. Stefan may have become a douche but he was still Damon’s little brother and that was never going to change.
“This isn’t helping,” Damon stared down Elijah who just snickered in response. Elijah was stronger and faster than both of them put together, and Elijah was about to crush them both and Elena if she tried to stop him.
“No you’re not helping. I had control of the situation before you all showed up. I was protecting her- me! I didn’t need your help or your interference. If anything happens to her it’s on all of you, and I swear to god I will make you all pay and suffer so horrendously that you will be begging me for death,” Elijah threatened meaning every single word.
“Leighton doesn’t want to be near you right now, you need to take the hint,” Damon replied, un-phased by Elijah’s threats.
“I’m leaving with Leighton and you are going to get out of my way.”
“Sure,” Damon smirked and stepped aside knowing both Leighton and Stefan were gone and Elijah immediately gripped Damon’s throat with one hand. He was going to make Damon pay.
“Stop it! Don’t make me draw attention. Let him go, let him go, let him GO!” Elena demanded frantically.
If anything happened to Damon because of her decision to protect Leighton than Elena would never be able to live with herself. Damon was Elena’s reason to keep living once her human life ended well apart from Jeremy and her friends of course.
“I meant every word I said,” Elijah released his grip and rushed out of the party. He needed to find Leighton. He had to protect her. Klaus wasn’t going to get anywhere near her.THANKS for reading! Did you enjoy it?
