“We can still turn back and pretend we never received the phone call,” Damon grabbed Elena’s hand and pulled her back towards the small solar powered Porsche. He knew they were asking for trouble just by being near Leighton. They had already lived through the drama with the originals, and Damon was feeling uneasy by testing fate a second time.
“I’m sorry Damon really,” Elena apologised. For the past twenty one years Elena had spent her time rejecting the change instead of embracing her new vampire life. She could only think about everything she was going to miss out on like being a mother and a grandparent, and growing old with her non-vampire friends.
“I know,” Damon pulled Elena in closer and kissed her forehead. He wasn’t going to let anything happen to Elena. Klaus wasn’t going to touch a single hair on her head.
It was only a few days ago that Elena had stop rejecting her vampire life and they talked about Paris being their first adventure together. Elena still couldn’t believe that Damon had wasted the last twenty one year’s waiting for her to stop hating what she was.
He truly was amazing.
“Come on Stefan is waiting for us,” Elena’s brown eyes looked up at him and he reluctantly let her take his hand and lead the way across the road. He hadn’t seen Stefan in twenty one years. Stefan left the moment Elena made her decision and Damon didn’t trust Stefan; he was worried this was all a part of a plan to get Elena back.
“I need to see your I.D,” The heavily built man in the bright shirt asked as they reached the door.
“No you don’t,” Elena looked deep into his eyes and tried compelling him. It had been a while since she had compelled someone, and Elena was worried she might fail but Damon was standing by her side ready to intervene if necessary.
“You’re right,” the security guard smiled after a brief pause and he opened the door.
“Thank you,” Elena replied and grabbed Damon’s hand before she walked into the club.
There were people everywhere. Some stood in random spots drinking and laughing while others sat at the bar and otherd danced on the flashing neon dance floor. Elena knew they looked out of place. She still dressed like it was 2012 and Damon refused to follow the new phase of bright colours. He preferred his leather jacket, dark tops and jeans.
After a few seconds of scanning Elena’s eyes fell on Stefan who was sucking face with some strawberry blonde bimbo on the small couch in the dark corner of the room.
Stefan sensed them instantly which made him kiss Halley harder as she fit perfectly into his lap and his hand gripped her hips. He had spent the last twenty one years searching for the woman to take Elena’s place although he hadn’t found anybody good enough until his path crossed with Leighton’s.
Leighton was beautiful and amazing; she was so different from Elena too although in the good way.
“Umm Stefan,” Elena tapped him on his shoulder although when Halley went to pull away Stefan brought her face closer to his. Stefan wasn’t ready to talk to Elena yet; she had relentlessly ripped out his heart and stomped on it repeatedly.
“We’ll be over by the bar,” Damon informed Stefan as he grabbed Elena’s hand and they each took a seat at the bar. Elena knew it was Stefan’s way of showing her that he was over her and a small part of her felt a little jealous at seeing him with another girl, but majority of her didn’t care she was glad she chose Damon.
“He's acting idiotic,” Elena rolled her eyes at his childish behaviour.
“I know but it mustn’t be easy losing you especially to me.” Damon’s lips turned into his signature smirk; the kind that made Elena smile and want to press her lips against his.
“I know but it isn’t the time. I don’t see Leighton anywhere,” Elena continued to look around the room but Leighton was nowhere in sight.
“What are you doing back here? And what the hell are you wearing? It isn’t 2015 or whatever and who is that hot guy with you? He’s cute but what happened to the boyfriend?” Jen spoke to Elena as she approached the bar; mistaking her for Leighton and Damon smirked in response to her compliment.
“You’re tired; you need some sleep now go,” Damon looked into Jen’s eyes compelling her and she became mesmerised as she stared into his beautiful blue eyes.
“Umm . . . I’m definitely not tired,” Jen replied confused by Damon’s behaviour.
Elena forced a laugh that sounded genuine, “He was joking,” Elena chuckled hoping that Jen was buying the act, and Damon smiled playing along as he sat back on his chair.
“Okay well I’m on my way out but you have to fill me in on everything; promise?” Jen smirked.
“She promises.” Damon replied and Jen smiled before she started to walk side by side with some dark haired guy.
“We could have gotten some information from her first like how she failed to be compelled,” Elena raised her eyebrow at Damon. Elena was starting to worry; there must have been a vampire in Leighton’s life that gave her friends vervain or witches, or maybe even werewolves.
Or they could have bought vervain jewellery unaware it was filled with the herb. Elena told herself.
“We will but first we’re going to talk to Stefan and see if he actually has anything that we can use,” Damon replied.
Elena wasn’t the only one stressing; Damon was sure that Klaus was already here how else could of her friends gotten their hands on vervain.
“Sounds like you have no faith in me at all brother,” Stefan suddenly appeared beside Elena.
“Well it seems you have lost the target already,” Damon was unimpressed by Stefan; he was losing his grip again. Damon didn’t like being the stable one of the two.
“I know where she is and Leighton is safe for the moment,” Stefan replied sounding bored.
“Please tell me that wasn’t one of her friends?” Elena asked although deep down she already knew the answer.
“Her name is Halley; she is very sweet,” Stefan smirked.
“Tell me everything you know!” Elena demanded.
“Okay well her middle name is Lee; how boring right? She uses just the right amount of tongue and--”
“Stefan can you stop being immature and tell me about Leighton?” Elena was growing tired of his games. He was acting like the old Damon and it was frustrating.
“Maybe I was talking about Leighton,” Stefan grinned. Elena was starting to realise how much Stefan had changed and how much she had changed him for the worst.
“This is serious Stefan!” Elena snapped.
“I know it is Elena why do you think I’m still here? I could have left you to deal with this alone but I didn’t did I?” Stefan pointed out and Elena felt a little bit of hope that the Stefan she knew was still there.
“Well what do you know?” Damon asked the question this time.
“I know she has vervain on her or in her. I tried to compel her but failed,” Stefan felt slightly embarrassed by his failed attempt but shrugged it off.
“She isn’t the only one her other friend Jen also has vervain on her. Do you think Klaus is already here?” Elena asked and tried to hide the fear from her voice.
“He could be if he has another witch doing his bidding than he could be anybody Elena; he could already be in her life.”
Elena gulped. She had refused to think about that. Klaus couldn’t be there already. He wasn’t allowed to be, “No he’s not here yet we would know about it; you would know about it.”
“You know what we have to do right?” Stefan asked both Damon and Elena.
“If you are thinking about contacting Caroline than just forget about it!” Elena snapped. Caroline had left Tyler for Klaus ten years ago and Elena still hated Caroline for it. Klaus had done nothing but make Elena’s life a living hell; he killed her Aunt Jenna, turned Stefan into a monster and nearly killed Jeremy along with many more horrendous acts that would take Elena all night to mention.
Which reminded Elena that she needed to give Jeremy a call to check in on him; it had been over six months since they last spoke; Jeremy was married to Bonnie and they had three children: Grayson, Sheila and Jenna. Even Matt was married to some girl named Alexandra with two kids: Hailey and Markus.
More reminders of the life Elena could never have.
“We don’t have a choice Elena,” Stefan replied. He also couldn’t believe that Caroline had chosen Klaus.
“As much as I hate to agree Stefan is right,” Damon agreed and Elena couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
“How do we know that she will even help us; she could give us false information to protect Klaus,” Elena snapped at both of them.
“I know but we have to try at least.” Stefan spoke matter-of-factly.
“What if it makes Klaus curious?” Elena asked.
“That’s why I’ll do it. I caught up with her a few years ago,” Stefan answered and Elena was a little shocked and felt slightly betrayed but she ignored it and turned to Stefan.
“Fine but how do you know Leighton is safe?”
“Because she is with her boyfriend," Stefan replied.THANKS for reading! Did you enjoy it?
