Nature of school and life

Class begins,
The monotone drone of the teacher numbing our brains,
Information plugged into our brains we're told we'll need for life beyond those walls,
Somehow the hour has gone by,
Bells screech,
It's all change,
Bustling corridors,
Pushes and shoves,
The cycle resets.

We're taught what everyone thinks we will need in life,
But yet we miss skills that could change our course.

We're taught structure and discipline,
To follow the rules,
The digits of pi to ten decimal places,
But not how to cope when the world turns against us,
How to help ourselves when it feels like no one else will.

School teaches what it thinks we need,
Setting test after test to track our progress,
Making us stressed and anxious at every turn,
But that is not all we need for life.

Life is more free,
We have to find our way,
People by our sides come and go,
But we always have to look after ourselves,
Strive for ambitions and see ourselves grow.

In life we can be ourselves,
But in school we must fit the mould,
Be free or be crushed - our only two options,
So why wouldn't we want to flee to the unknown?
