CHAPTER SEVEN

The next day was a normal one. I went to school this time, and I reacted normally when my teacher, Mr. Letky blamed me for skipping school again. As school ended, Jesse caught up to me in the hall.

“So, did you find your board?” A smile crept up on my face as I reminisced the moment Luke and I had shared together.

“Just fine, thanks.” Was all I could manage to say. Jesse and I kept walking side by side, without talking. Lockers were making their final shut as students emptied the hallway to go home. The loud conversations dimmed to a minimum whisper as the halls became vacant. All I could hear was my footsteps taking a halt at my locker. I dialed my combination, while Jesse was beside me, facing towards the other pairs of lockers across from mine.

“So… how do you like the new guy? It’s Luke right…?” Jesse trailed, trying desperately to construct a conversation with me. I placed my books and pencils into the middle shelf of my locker and grabbed my coat and bag. I closed my locker, while taking out my emerald colored iPod. I turned toward him, creating a disappointed face.

“What is it with you? Do you have something against him? He didn’t do anything wrong, and as a matter of fact I am going out with him. To the park, I mean.” I said, but wishing I hadn’t. I don’t think telling Jesse where I was going and with who was such a good idea after all. But I already said it, and now here comes the anger management issues.

“What? Are you serious? You’re going out to the skate park, with him and only him? That’s dangerous Chloe, who knows what he could do to you,” Jesse stated. He was an overprotected person, I knew but still my business is none of his. “And besides, you don’t even know him that well. I don’t think I can allow you to go.”

            “Who are you my brother?”

“I could tell him, if you’d like.” I froze. If Jesse told Shane that I was going out with a stranger at night, then Shane would probably go nuts and be super protective. But Shane isn’t my legal guardian, and I will not let Jesse manipulate me like that.

“First of all, I’m not going out with just him. He’s bringing a couple of his friends and-”

“Druggie friends,” Jesse interrupted. “-and he’s really nice to me. Go ahead and tell Shane, because I don’t really care. He can’t do anything about it. And if you so stupidly decided to tell him, then I will be pissed off at you.” I ended it there, slamming my locker shut and walking away. Jesse can be so annoying sometimes. He thinks he owns me, but he doesn’t.

I heard Jesse calling after me, but I just walked away. This gave me a déjà-vu of when I walked away from Jesse at the park. Again, I knew this was a smart decision. Luke wouldn’t do anything to me, and I can already feel the start of a great relationship, whether Jesse likes it or not.
