I ran to the skate park. I ran until my lungs burned and when I reached the park, I almost collapsed. There was a lot of people there, skating around and performing tricks for their friends. I spotted Luke right away. He was skating in the bright green ramp, the same ramp where I first met him.

When I approached and made eye contact, he immediately stopped. I knew Tyler and Trevor were watching him, but I paid no attention to the boys, as I laid my eyes on Luke.

As Luke approached, he nodded to Tyler and Trevor, signalling them to give him some private time. He strode over, helmet on his head and board in his left hand.

“No offence, but I’d never thought I’d see you again,” he says, stopping at a good distance. I didn’t want to look him in the eyes, but I had no choice, really. I glanced up into his sea- blue eyes and I couldn’t help but smile. He returned it with a grin and took off his helmet. His dirty blond hair was grown out more, a difference from when the first time I met him, when he had a buzz cut.

“Yeah, well…” I said, trailing off. There was a long pause before he spoke again.

          “Chloe I –” I immediately interrupted him.

“Luke, before you say anything, let me just say this. Today, I just walked away from someone close and dear to my heart. I let him go because there’s only one person I know who makes me feel amazing. Someone who is kind, gentle, talented and so gorgeous,” I said, not wanting to stop. Luke just knows this is about him, as he smiles broadly, showing his pearly white teeth. “And that person is you. What you said to me a few weeks ago, about really liking me and all, I just wanted to say that I feel the same way, and that I don’t want to lose you, ever.” I stopped to concentrate on my breathing. I just expressed my feelings out loud, and I never thought in a million years I’d be able to do that.

Luke inched closer, filling the gap between us. He set down his skateboard and helmet, and touched his hand to my face. “You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to hear that.” I hardly noticed all the people surrounding us, but it didn’t matter. “But, I do have one question for you,” Luke asks, returning his hand to his side.

“What?” I said, waiting impatiently, wanting to so desperately kiss him.

“I never got my prize, for winning that competition, remember?” Luke grins again, and waits for my reply. It takes me a while to remember what he was referring to, and then it hit me.

“Okay, want it now?” I ask playfully, matching his illuminating smile. And before I could let him answer, I close the space between us and press my lips to his. He returned the kiss passionately and held my face to his as I wrapped my hands around his neck.

Suddenly, there was a burst of cheering, applauding and whistling. We broke off the kiss for an instant to look around us. Every skater in the park was gathered around a good two- meters away from us. I laughed shyly as I buried my face into Luke’s broad chest. He smelled like Luke, and I wrapped my hands around his waist. He leaned his head against mine and whispered,

“I’m so glad I have you,” I smiled as my face was still buried in his torso, as I felt his chest move up and down to the sound of his laughter.
