[UNKNOWN POV]

So he had brought out his Hell-hound, or whatever you want to call it. Was he really that pissed off? I was sure that he had just met this girl, or she was forced to come because her parents wanted to climb higher on the metaphorical Ladder-of-Success. I growled low and deep in my throat. That's when an idea slithered it's way into my mind like a snake.

[LACEY'S POV]

  It was . . .

  Awful.

  Horrible.

  Terrifying.

But I do admit it was pretty cool.

Crouched in a menacing position, it snarled at the guy in front of me. There was little flesh hanging off the bones. It had the body of something similar to a dog's, but it had horns, almost like a bull. It's eyes were a deep crimson, showing the blood lust that it probably felt. It snorted and everyone backed away, making a large ring. It was the Hell-hound, the other guy, and I.....

  And then I saw Ben.

He looked like a demon as he stood in his defensive position. His eyes were a bright red and his canines looked sharp. His hair was tousled and it was being teased as if there were some wind in the hall. His fists were clenched and I felt my head fall slightly to the side, wondering. I knew that he wasn't a vampire, that would be insane. Someone mental would say. He was still human, I knew that. He just had some insane powers that made me scared for my life, I think. How else would he be able to call up something like that? It really did look like it belonged in some sort of Hell.

But what can I say? I have no clue what I'm talking about.

Or, on a side note, no clue what I'm doing.

I walked in front of the guy standing in front of me, looking like he was trying to protect me, and walked straight up to the dog-bull thing. Squatting down, I took a good look in its bloody eyes. From what I saw, it looked sad. I frowned. Why would someone put an animal through such torture as to make it the slightest bit upset? I saw it look at me in wonder as I felt words slide out of my mouth.

"You don't belong here. Be gone, you deserve to be happy," I said.

A grateful light shone in it's eyes as I saw a light before my eyes. The hound was engulfed in it and I saw a glimpse of a bloodhound and a bull looking at me as I stood up straight and the light disappeared. The tension in the air tightened and it was almost stifling. I looked at Ben. He looked absolutly furious. I walked right up to him, about a foot away from him. I crossed my arms and looked him in his eyes. They were a deep crimson now, and he glared at me like it was all he had left. The look in his eyes and his stance. . . I couldn't take it anymore.

  I started to laugh.

I laughed for all it was worth and I think I almost fell to the ground, but I felt a strong hand jerk my head up. Ben held me captive in his now golden eyes. I felt my guffaws slowly bubble down to giggles, and then I lapsed into silence. I stared at him for a minute, and it was all my will power used not to laugh. He cocked an eyebrow as his golden eyes clouded over and went back to the dark brown they were before.

"What was so funny?" he asked finally, after a quick search of my own eyes.

"The way you looked all protective over something that isn't yours," I said, smirking.

The tension from before bubbled away as people snickered and a couple 'oh's sounded over the hall.

  "Oh really?" he asked.
