I was walking out of my last class with my books tucked under my arm and my book bag slung over my shoulder. I had a pretty good day today. There weren't any mishaps at all today. I sat outside with Rosie and Cody. I really didn't want to have a run in with the Gems again. I had just washed off their "mark" off of my car.
I turned the corner and went flying backwards as I hit someone. I heard books clatter to the floor and a pair of arms wrap around my waist to steady me, but I was already twisting to catch myself, so the person I rammed into fell along with me. I landed on top of said person. I groaned and pushed up, picking my head up off the chest of the assaulted person. I saw Grey beneath me and the whispers started when I froze, just staring at him, and he stared back at me. His grey eyes still captivated me after so many years, and I found it hard to rip my gaze away.
It was ripped away for me when someone picked me up and set me on my feet. I looked behind me to see Ben staring down at Grey with a blank expression. I looked back down at Grey and saw him sitting up now, looking back up at Ben with the same expression. I shifted from foot to foot awkwardly. I didn't really know what was going on. So much for no mishaps, I thought to myself miserably.
"Um... Sorry I ran into you," I said after a moment. That snapped them out of their staring contest and Ben helped Grey off of the ground and he brushed himself off.
"Not a problem," he replied gruffly.
I paused for another moment before bending over on the ground and collecting my books and papers that flew everywhere. I reached for my notebook, but found it snatched up by another hand. I looked up to see a hand offered to me. I grabbed it and was pulled up and Grey handed me my notebook.
"Uh--"
"You're welcome," he cut me off with a smirk." And, 'uh,' stuttering isn't very attractive."
An angry spark flared within me as my eyes narrowed up at him. "Go fuck yourself," I spat as I snatched the notebook and spun on my heel. I stalked away from him and pushed through the group of people that had been watching. I glanced back to see Grey and Ben in a heated discussion. I sighed and turned down another hallway. I looked at the lockers next to me to try and figure out where I was going and soon found my locker.
I opened it and tossed my books inside without much thought. I pushed my backpack inside and hung it on the hook and went to grab my purse from the top shelf on my locker. That's when I saw it.
A single star-gazer lily sat at the top of my locker, the same blue ribbon wrapped around the stem as was around the little bag of cookies from yesterday. I then realized that I was standing there like an idiot with my hand half way to the top shelf and just staring into my locker. I mobilized myself and grabbed the flower, holding it by the stem between my forefinger and thumb. I twirled it around in my hand a couple times before grabbing my purse and closing the door to my locker.
I turned to walk out of the school, but was stopped by a grinning Cody. "Does someone have a secret admirer?" he cooed.
I fought a blush on my cheeks as I rolled my eyes. "I have no idea," I replied snappily.
Cody just grinned as he slung an arm around my shoulder and walked with me down the hall. "I think you do!"
"This is the second thing I've gotten in the past two days and I have no idea where or who they're coming from. I got cookies yesterday," I babbled, looking down at the flower again.
"Well, at least the ribbon matches your eyes, hey?" he joked, flicking my nose affectionately.
I snorted. "Yeah, whatever. Doesn't really help me find out who it is," I retorted.
