CHAPTER TWELVE
________________
I left Ben at his car. His slightly bi-polar attitude was making me feel uncomfortable and awkward. I thanked him for the ride, of course, and scurried away as fast as I could. Just because I was over what had happened, doesn't mean I want to think about it or be reminded of it in anyway. I let out a small sigh and walked into the school. Already, some people were pointing and whispering. Though my outer façade was calm, on the inside I was scowling. Why didn’t I just stay home like I was planning to in the first place? I thought bitterly.
I had trouble finding my locker still. I ended up wandering around the halls of the school a few times, getting frustrated with every turn down a different pristine corridor. They all looked the same to me. One of the warning bells sounded and I scowled. I need to really try to pay attention to where I’m going. I growled lowly to myself a minute later when I still hadn’t found my locker. It was in the thousands and I was still in the lower two thousands. I threw my hands up in the air and growled as the final warning bell went off, signaling I had three minutes to get to class before I was late… If I could even find my way to my first class.
School is very irritating in more ways than one.
I turned the corner to almost run into someone, but I veered out of the way. Rosie stood before me, looking at me like I was crazy. I smiled sheepishly while waving at her.
“Hi,” I said, shifting my book bag that still rested on my shoulder.
She gave me a once over. “You’re lost,” she stated.
I simply nodded. She shook her head, walked around me and grabbed the strap of my book bag, dragging me backwards down the hall, not saying a word.
“Hey!” I called out in protest.
People sure looked at me funny now. I almost slipped and fell multiple times as she navigated the halls. Not to mention run into people. I pouted and stopped complaining after a minute or two had gone by. She stopped suddenly and I fell backwards, not expecting the sudden weight of my bag coming down on my shoulders. Someone caught me with a laugh and I looked up to see Cody with his arms around my waist as he hoisted me to my feet, jokingly dusting me off.
“There we go. Nothing broken, right?” he asked, still chuckling.
“Nothing but my heart when you let me go,” I joked back. I turned to Rosie with a smile. “Thanks for bringing me to my locker, no matter how unorthodox your methods were.”
Rosie just nodded and disappeared. I watched her go. She was an odd one, that’s for sure.
“You couldn’t find your locker again, could you?” Cody asked as I opened said locker to try and find which book I needed… If I even got the book, yet, but I don’t think I did, so I shoved my book bag into the metal cubby hole and closed it again.
“Maybe,” I replied flippantly, not wanting to admit it. I have some pride, you know.
“Oh, that’s great! You could’ve asked someone, you know,” he said, his eyes shining with humor.
“That’s for losers,” I muttered as we walked together to our class.
The late bell rung and I sighed. Another day, another tardy. Let’s just hope that nothing happens like yesterday. I really don’t want to deal with something like that again. My hate meter is already pretty high, now for both of the twins. I frowned slightly just thinking about it. Sapphire has really changed since I last seen her last year. She was still as sweet as honey, but that was probably just an illusion I guess. A hand on my shoulder halted my thinking as I looked over.
