CHAPTER ELEVEN

I awoke in a dark room. My eyelids fluttered and I recognized the purple walls of my room. I found comfort in them and even my fogged mind caught onto something. When did I get here?

That question led to others. Such as: How did I get here?  and Where's my baby!?I groaned as I got more awake and realized that my mouth tasted dry and disgusting and I vaguely remember throwing the contents of my stomach into the small garbage can in the Infirmary.

My mind was going in circles as I remembered school today. The bile rose in my throat when I remembered that Ben was at this new school. Who knew that Ben was smart? I thought that he was just some stupid, drunk player who was bound to get on my nerves sometime. I then remembered that I hadn't had any dreams in a while, and that confused me. I used to always have them. At least three or four times a week. I frowned. I knew I couldn't stand Ben and his player-ish ways, but I still found it weird. I don't think I would hyperventilate to much while I'm sleeping, right? I haven't seen him since the night after the Incident.

Speaking of incidents, the thoughts led me back to Quinn, or "Grey" as he liked to be called. I gave him the nickname when we were about 10 or 11 because of his eyes. Now that I think about it, Cody has the same shade of eyes that Quinn has. Maybe it's a coincidence? Cody doesn't seem like Quinn, though. He seems . . . A little more mature, perhaps? It isn't hard to be more mature than Quinn, though, now that I think about it. He was always reckless.

The last time I saw him was when we were thirteen and we were at one of Skye's family's summer cabins out in Northern California at a mountain called Brokeoff. We were sitting on the porch of the big, green cabin with the bright red roof. The sun was beating down that day so we had the umbrella up and out so we can watch as the sun shone on the face of the other mountain the start of that vacation was nice, but he had to ruin it by the end of it. . . .

(Lacey & Grey)

They both sat in the plastic lawn chairs under the huge, yellow umbrella. The sun was intense and Skye's mother said it was about 90 or so outside. Lacey sat back, her eyes closed, fanning herself with her hand. Sweat and water glistened off her curls and Quinn looked over at her, his eyes shining, looking amused.

"Are you hot, Sunshine?" Grey asked, chuckling slightly.

"What does it look like, Grey?" Lacey muttered, not opening her eyes.

"Why do you have to call me Grey?" he asked. "Quinn works just fine."

She laughed. She could hear the frown in his voice. "One, you know your eyes are an amazing shade of grey, so that's what I call you all of the time." She paused, opening her eyes and leaning down to grab her water bottle from the ground.

"And the second reason?" he asked, sounding irritated.

"You call me Sunshine, Sunny, Lace, and so many different other names, so I thought that I should give you a nickname myself," she stated, grinning at him like a fool.

"Brilliant," he muttered, looking away from her and scowling at the mountain face that seemed so far off in the distance.

"I know I am," she stated, her grin getting wider.

He rolled his eyes. "Whatever, Sunshine."

She giggled and closed her eyes again, listening to the laughing children in the distance. She could hear small splashes and the squeals as they realised just how cold the lake was. She remembered earlier when both Skye and Grey had jumped in . . .
