Thomas the Tank Engine is good friends with everybody on the Island of Sodor. He is good friends with his fellow steamies, the children of Sodor, and he's even got friends amongst the diesels.

(Toby, Alice, Nancy and Paxton can be seen as these examples.)

But Thomas' best friend of all is Percy. The two tank engines love to do everything together if they can.

One day, Thomas and Percy were shunting in the yards when the Fat Controller arrived looking very excited.

"Thomas, Duchess is coming from the Mainland to bring a very important friend of yours to Sodor."

"Who is it, sir?" asked Thomas.

"Why, the young Prince, of course!"

Thomas gasped.

"Prince Charles, sir?"

"Indeed! He will have a royal escort. Her Majesty the Queen is busy, so he will be brought by a royal caregiver."

Thomas was very excited. He couldn't wait to meet the young prince again.

Percy was a little nervous. He knew Thomas had met the Queen and the young Prince before, but he had never really seen a royal family member personally. He felt unsure if he could enjoy the experience with his best friend.

He puffed shyly away.

(Hank can be seen passing through.)

"I can't wait to tell everyone about this," beamed Thomas, "and I can't wait for you to meet the Prince, Percy-"

But Percy was nowhere to be seen.

"Percy? Percy!" called Thomas worriedly.

Percy had hidden in a siding. As he caught his puff after leaving so quickly, he saw Arthur pass by with some fish trucks.

"Are you okay, Percy?" asked Arthur.

"Um, yes, just needed some rest," replied Percy quietly.

"If you say so," said Arthur, but he could see that Percy was upset about something.

Thomas was looking for Percy and also telling his friends about the royal visit.

Diesel sniffed.

"Young princes should stick with being friends with revolutionary, modern diesels!"

"You're not as modern as I am, Herr Diesel," laughed Hugo, "and Thomas, it is a great privilege to be visited personally by a royal!"

"I know," grinned Thomas, who was blushing with pride.

Arthur came in.

"Thomas, did you know Percy was resting in a siding further up the line? He looked worried about something."

Thomas was puzzled and thanked Arthur before puffing away to find his best friend.

Percy was worrying about Prince Charles coming to visit his best friend when he heard Thomas' whistle.

"Oh no," he whispered and he rushed away.

Thomas missed Percy leaving and was surprised to find the siding empty.

Percy was so determined to escape Thomas that he slid through the closing gates of the level crossing, much to Bertie and Elizabeth's surprise.

"Watch where you're going!" snapped Elizabeth.

"What's got into you, Percy?" shouted Bertie.

But Percy was already out of sight.

He hid in Henry's Forest. Henry himself was there enjoying the peace.
