It was a busy summer on the Island of Sodor.

Thomas was very excited and so was Bertie. There was to be a roadshow situated on Thomas' Branch Line and Bertie was going to be apart of the show. And not only Bertie. Thomas' friend, Ace was comingto Sodor as the star attraction of the show and he was also going togive a demonstration of his stunt jumps that Thomas helped himperfect in Australia.

"I cannot wait for the show," said Bertie.

"Neither can I," peeped Thomas.

Then they heard a special honking sound. Thomas knew that sound onlytoo well.

"Howdy there, mate!"

It was Ace!

"Hello, Ace," whistled Thomas cheerfully.

"I was hoping we'd meet up again, Thomas," smiled Ace.

"Ahem?"

Thomas blushed.

"Um, yes, Ace, this is my friend, Bertie the Bus," he explained.

Ace eyed Bertie doubtfully.

"I didn't know buses of your era still existed, Bernie," he said.

"Bertie!"

Bertie's face had gone as red as his paintwork.

"Ace, Bertie may be an old bus, but he is a Really Useful one. Andhe's fairly fast too. We race along the branch line all the time."

"Not as fast as me, I'll bet," teased Ace.

"You're on," fumed Bertie.

"But Bertie-"

"But nothing, Thomas! I'll show Ace who's boss!"

But he didn't.

Ace and Bertie raced to Elsbridge from Ffarquahar. The net result wasBertie feeling tired out and humiliated at Ace's easy victory.

"I tried to warn you," mumbled Thomas.

"I hope I'm not the only modern model of road travel in this roadshow," chuckled Ace boastfully.

"Who else is in the show?"asked Thomas.

"Bulgy and his friend, Lumpy," said Bertie, "and Caroline isgoing to be there. Trevor will be giving rides. Elizabeth and Madgewill be there too and I think the Fat Controller's car is being puton display."

Ace smirked.

"I doubt the children will be interested in any vehicle but me andmy stunt jumps!"

Thomas felt that Ace was being too much of a show-off again. Hewanted to be sure that Bertie and the Sodor road vehicles would bejust as impressive as Ace. Then he saw the other cars arrive.

Trevor came in first with a wagon to carry the children in.

"Hello, Thomas!"

Then came Caroline.

"Hello, all," she tooted.

Elizabeth came in with Madge.

"Little whipper-snappers behaving in the Hills?"

"Oh, yes, though I still need to be sure they wash behind theirbuffers!" laughed Madge.

And then Bulgy and Lumpy arrived.

"Who are you?" Bulgy asked Ace.

"I'm Ace, mate," he replied, "star of the Sodor Road Show!"

"I reckon we're more impressive," pointed out Lumpy, "we're thebigger vehicles in the show."
