I ran down the sidewalk as fast as possible. My brother was in pain and I needed to comfort him. My little brother can be VERY annoying sometimes, but I love him. Only a crazy person wouldn't love their own brother.
I make it to my front door and see Scotty sitting on the front porch crying. I run up to him and sit by his side.
"You okay?" I ask, putting a hand on his shoulder. He just looks up and me, lunging forward into a hug. "Hey, hey! It's okay!"
"N-no it's not.. they think I'm a weirdo. A complete egghead!" He says, pulling away from the hug.
"Well so what they think your weird? Your the best brother anyone could ask for. Okay? And just because they think your weird doesn't mean you should just give up. If you really want to learn how to play, then you gotta get the right attitude. The right confidence!" I say, trying to give him some encouragement.
"Thanks El, but I think I'm just gonna head up to my room, I'm tired." He says, mopping to the front door and up the stairs to his room.
"Man.." I mumble under my breath.
I really don't want him to give up on something he loves! I could tell the way his eyes lit up when he saw the sandlot boys play. He really wanted to get out there with them.
Now, I will say this. My lil bro can be an awkward person...at times. My mom kept him away from everything bad in the world, and I love her for that I really do but, she has to let him go off into the world! The kid doesn't even know what chewing tobacco is! Or what you do with it! (🤦🏼♀️) He's so pure, it could make you puke. I'm not putting any hate on him or anything. He just needs to live a little.
I get up off the porch, dusting my shorts off. I look across the street to see Benny walking to his house. He see's me and waves. I wave back and give him a small smile. After all, he did nothing wrong. It was the others that I was frustrated at.
I turn around clutching the knob of the front door in my hand and open it. Mom was in the kitchen making dinner.
"Sweetie, what's wrong with your brother? He didn't say anything when he came in." She says, giving me a concerned look.
"He's just upset about what happened at the sandlot today, some jerks started laughing at him 'cause he fell on his butt trying to catch a ball." I told her, getting annoyed at the thought.
"Oh, well okay. I'm making pasta for supper. Wanna help?" She asks, still a little gloomy at the fact that we just moved here and Scotty's already getting bullied.
"Sure, let me get cleaned up first." I say, walking over to the sink to wash my hands.

Time skip after dinner*It was after dinner and I was getting a shower. I started thinking about how I could help Scott. Bill told him that he would play catch with him to give experience with the game but I sure as hell wasn't about to let my little brother get taught how to play ball by a 50 year old delinquent. Bill is an asshole, I don't like him at all, but like I said in the beginning, he makes my mom happy and that's all that matters.
I get out of the shower and wrap myself up in a towel and walk to my bedroom after blow drying my hair. I pick out pajamas and go to bed. Bill and mom had put my bed in my room. We were getting settled in better and most of the furniture was arranged now. It finally felt like home.
