The next morning I woke up and did my normal routine, changing into a plain white T, blue jean shorts, my dodgers jersey (unbuttoned), and my blue converse along with my blue dodgers cap. I threw my hair into ponytail as always too.
I grabbed my glove, "Bye mom!" I yelled to my mom who was in the kitchen.
She turned around to face me, a apron tied around her waist. "Ah Ah Ah. Not so fast missy." She said, a small grin on her face.
I turned around, spinning on my heels. "Yeah?" I ask, confused.
She came up to me and cuffed my cheeks. "Baby, why are you hanging out with so many boys. Your a lady. You must act like one." She says, a worried look on her face.
She had always been like this. Thinking that girls wear make up and dresses. Girls do girl like things, and when you grow up, you stay in the house and cook and clean for your husband. I hated it, gender doesn't define what you can and can't good. Same thing with boys. If a boy wants to wear a dress, or make up, then he can if he chooses. (Just an opinion, no hate.)
"What? Mom! All the girls in our neighborhood are snobs..." I say with disgust.
"Ellie Parker! That is no way to treat those poor girls! You haven't even spoken to them. Just give them a chance, please?" My mom asks pleadingly.
"Fine, but not today. Me and the boys have a big game this morning." I say, making my moms face turn to disgust.
"No. I will not allow it! You are a lady not a tomboy. Now, go change into something more fitting and go talk to some of the girls down the street." My mom said angrily.
"Mom! Please!" I plead.
"No! Shut your mouth! You will not speak to your mother this way!" She yells, pushing me upstairs. I groan in defeat, knowing I've lost. And now I can't be with the boys for the big game! All I can do now is pray.
꧁AFTER CHANGING꧂
I can't believe my mom is making me do this. She was so supportive at first. Now she's just throwing it all out the window.
My brother Scotty came into the room while my mother was doing my make up. I had on a pink dress, pink flats, and my hair was curled.
"Oh my gosh!" Scotty yells, laughing obnoxiously.
"Scotty! Shut up!" I yell, throwing a hair brush at him.
"Ow!" He shouts in disparity.
"Cut it out! That is not how ladies act!" My mother shouts, breaking us up. I groan as she continues to put mascara on my long lashes. She tried covering up my freckles, "Why did you have to get your fathers freckles? They're so ugly.."
I change my facial expression and look down, a sad look on my face. I already had enough insecurities, my mom just pointed out one. Why is she being so rude now?
Scotty gives me a look of confusion. "Aren't you coming to play Phillips today?" He asks.
"No, moms making me visit the girls down the street. She wants me to make girl-friends instead of dirty boys." I say, rolling my eyes. My mother had walked outside the room to get the door.
"Scotty! Some boys are here for you!" My mom yells from downstairs.
"Oh, that's probably the guys. Cya later El." Scott says walking out of the room.
"Bye..." I say, slightly sad. "Tell the boys I said good luck."
"Will do." Scotty says from outside the door.
OUTSIDE
I walked along the sidewalk, seeing a few girls on my way. One of them stuck their tongue out at me. What a butt hole.
I was about to give up on all hope until I saw a girl riding her bike. I watched as she crashed into a bush. I ran over to her immediately.
"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" I ask, squatting down beside her.
"Ow.... My head.." she groans.
"Aww man, your heads bleeding." I say, panicked. She then starts to breath hard.
"My heads bleeding?! Shit! No no no!" She panics.
"Hey hey! Calm down, come on, let's head to my house and I can fix you up." I say.
Once we get to my house, I tell her she can sit at the dining table. I race upstairs and get bandages. I make it back downstairs and start wrapping her head in gauze.
"Thank you so much." She says.
"Of course, and I didn't catch your name. I'm Ellie, Ellie Parker." I say, smiling, now knowing that she's okay.
"Oh right, I'm Anna Lee." She says, shaking my hand and smiling.
"Nice to meet ya, Ann." I say.
"Same to you." She says. "You know, your really nice. Well, compared to all the snobs down the street. I saw you walking, I didn't figure you'd be this kind to me, based on your outfit. I just assumed you were like them."
"Oh, this?" I ask, pointing to my pink dress. "My mom made me wear it, she said 'it's more lady like.' I hate it. I'd much rather be playing baseball right now with my friends. No offense."
"Oh my gosh, my moms the same way! It's so stupid." She says, waving her hands around.
We go up to my room and talked about each others lives. She told me she lost her dad in the army and she had 2 older brothers. I told her about 'The Sandlot' too. She told me she wanted to check it out sometime!
Maybe mom was right, well, about making new friends. Not giving up my other ones. Especially Benny... but, wow! I finally have a girl-friend! Eep!
