"You should totally ask him out!" Ann said, shoving popcorn in her mouth.
"What?! No! I can't do that!" I say, pacing back and forth. "What do I do?! I can't ask him out! But... what if someone else asks him out?! Oh shit! I-I can't do this!"
Ann stands up from the floor and slaps me hard on the face.
"OW!" I yell.
"You can do this. I know you can. JUST DO IT!" She yells, waving her hands around.
"Yeah.. yeah! I can do this! It's not like I've never talked to him before. And he is my best friend. Other than you of course! But.. what if he doesn't like me back? Then we're not gonna have a normal friendship.. and it'll be awkward.." I say, going from excited and confident to sad and worried.
Ann comes closer and hugs me. "It's okay, your a wonderful person, who doesn't like you?" She says, trying to comfort me.
"That's really nice Ann but, he's way out of my league." I say.
"You managed to become friends with him didn't you? Why can't you be more?" She asks, pulling away from the hug.
"Well-." I start but get cut off by the doorbell. "I'll get it."
I walk to the door and see- speak of the devil.
Benny.
"Hey el, I was just wondering if you wanted to go with us to the carnival. Smalls told me what happened, sorry you couldn't make it. We won in the end though." Benny says.
"Oh, yeah sure! And congrats on the win. I wish I could've been there to see the look on Phillips' face when he lost." I say, receiving a small giggle from him.
The rest of the guys were on the sidewalk, along with my brother. He seemed to be having so much fun with them. 'I'm proud of you little bro..' I think to myself.
"Do you mind if I invite someone? It's just one of my friends from down the street." I say. Ann came up behind me and smiled at Benny. "This is Ann."
"Yeah that's totally fine. Hey Ann." He says, smiling.
"Hi, you must be Benny. Ella talks about you a lot." She says, making me nudge her.
"Shut up.." I mumble through my teeth.
"Whatever. Y'know there was this one time she-." She starts.
"Haha.. you know we're gonna go get ready now! See ya in a sec! Bye ben!" I say awkwardly, closing the door in his face.
"Girl, he's way cuter then you said he was. You hit the jackpot!" Ann says, wiggling her eyebrows.
"Oh, come on, let's go get ready." I say, dragging her upstairs.
I had changed into a grey slightly oversized hoodie, black leggings, and white high top converse. I wore my hair down, pulling back little strands and fly aways.
Ann changed into something similar, she wore a pink hoodie and black high tops. Wearing her hair in a ponytail.
I walked downstairs to be meted face to face with my mom. Shit.
"Hello darling, where are you off to so late?" She asks, a laundry basket in hand. "I see you've made a friend?"
"Uh yeah, mom, this is Anna, I call her Ann. And we're going to the carnival together." I explain.
"Well, be careful. And it is very nice to meet you Ann." My mom says. "Have fun you two!"
"Mhm!" I hum, grabbing Ann's arm and dragging her outside.
