We finally found enough bottles to make up 98 cents. Now, we are standing outside of 'Vincent's Drug Store'.
"Come on. Let's go!"
"Go, go, go, go! Move, move!"
"Come on. Open it up!"
"Hurry up, hurry up!"
"Give me the ball." Benny says, taking the ball from Squints. "Give me something to write with."
Then Scott pulls a pencil out of his back pocket.
"Give me a pen, not a pencil!" He says.
"Sorry."
"I got a pen." I say, taking it out of my pocket and handing the pen to him.
"Thank ya." He reply's.
"Mhm." I hum, watching as he writes on the white leather.
"Babe... Baby Ruthie?" Yeah yeah asks, trying to read Bennys handwriting.
"It says, 'Babe Ruth'." I say, rolling my eyes.
"I don't know, Benny man."
"Yeah, boy, it looks pretty crappy."
"It doesn't matter what it looks like. His moms never gonna know the difference. This'll just buy us some time, ya dorks!" Benny says, rolling his eyes.
"Okay, come on!"
We ran down the sidewalk and to me and Scotty's house. As soon as we came to a stop, Benny gave Scott the ball.
"Alright, Scott, just put it in the trophy room. Be quick," I say, walking over to sit with the guys on the sidewalk.
I didn't wanna go in with him cause I figured it would be too risky. Plus, he is the one that stole it. He should put it back.
"You good?" Benny asks, turning his head to look at me.
"Yeah, I'm good. Just nervous, how are we gonna get that ball back?" I ask, fidgeting with my fingers.
"Hey, it alright. We'll find a way to get it back." He responds, grabbing one of my hands and intertwining our fingers. I smile at him a little.
"Um, what the fuck." DeNunez asks. "Are you guys dating or some shit?"
"Uh, well-." I start, getting cut off.
"Yep." Benny responds.
"Really?!"
"Uh yeah," I say shyly.
"GUYS! BENNY AND ELLIE ARE DATING!"
"WHAT?!"
"OMG REALLY!"
"YEAH YEAH!"
I laugh nervously. I hated being the center of attention. It's so nerve racking. Benny then pecks my cheek.
"AYOOO!"
"WELP- I SAW THAT COMIN' ."
"BRO WHAT."
"Okay, okay! Shut up!" I yell, red faced. Benny just laughs at my face. "Your not helping."
Scotty then rushes out the door. "I came THIS CLOSE to getting caught." He says, pinching his fingers together.
"Phew.."
"Now we gotta figure out how we're gonna get that ball back." I say.
A few hours later
The boys had decided to stay at me and Scotty's house to think of how we were gonna get that ball back. At the moment, we're in our backyard.
"I'm gonna go, see you guys tomorrow." Kenny said, waving.
"Cya man."
"Bye."
"I'm gonna go too. It's getting late anyways."
"Yeah same."
"Yup."
"Same."
"Cya losers."
At this point everyone was gone except Benny. I decided to start cleaning up. I grabbed plates from where we had had snacks earlier.
"You need any help?" Benny asks, grabbing a plate too.
"If you don't mind." I say, stacking the plates on top of each other.
"Of course not."
"Okay."
He starts grabbing plates as well. I show him where the kitchen is so he can put them there.
"Hunny, who is this?" My mom asks, referring to Benny.
"Oh uh, this is Benny..my, boyfriend..." I say, awkwardly, my face turning red.
"Oh, darling! You never told me you had a boyfriend!" She says excitedly.
"Uh, nice to meet you, Mrs. Smalls." Benny says, smiling awkwardly. Aww jeez...
"It's lovely to meet you too, darling. Are you hungry? I was just about to start supper." My mother says, smiling.
"Oh no, that's fine. My mom is probably wondering where I am actually." He says as my mom takes the plates from his hands.
"Well, have a good night, sweetheart." She says, putting the plates in the sink.
"You too, ma'am." He says.
"Show him to the door, please."
"Yes ma'am."
I walk over to the door, Benny following behind.
"Sorry about her, I didn't know she was still up." I say as he steps out onto the porch.
"It's all good, she was very lovely actually." He says, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"See ya later Ben," I say, giving him a small peck on the cheek.
"See ya." He says, smiling.
I smile as he walks over to his house. I close the door, being met face to face with my mother.
"Oh, goodness, you scared me." I say, startled.
"You weren't planing on telling me you have a boyfriend?" My mom asks. "And you were out and around him with those clothes on? This is absolutely unacceptable! And what did I tell you about hanging around those boys anyways!"
"Those boys make me happy! They're my friends! What happened to my opinion on this?! I'm friends with them wether you like it or not! And they don't care about what I wear! I'm not a Barbie that you can just dress up, mom!" I yell.
The next thing I know I'm being slapped across the face. My mouth opens in shock. I feel my eyes start to sting.
"You will not speak to me that way! I am your mother! If I see you around them again I will bring your father into this!" She yells at me.
I rush up to my room and close the door, locking it too. I grab my jacket and throw it on my body. I run over to my window, unlocking it and opening it up. I climb out.
I'm tired of her shit. I'm going to Anna for some advice.
