part seventeen

*Elena's pov*

I look around and tap my foot quietly on the wooden floor as everyone tries to come up with a plan to save me. One that I know will fail. There's no saving me but that's not the particular topic of conversation because no one wants to admit it.

"So. Before we all come to the obvious conclusion of all this. Why's there a ring on your finger?" I ask, looking at Bella's hand "I proposed" Taehyung says and I smile sadly "I'm really happy for you guys." I say and Jimin looks down "Thank you" bella says

"I think I might've figured something out" namjoon says and I lean my head back "what is it?" Jin asks "Why do you think it's taking Elena so long to turn? Six months ago she would've turned as soon as you guys got her home" he says "your point is?" Yoongi asks "I was looking through this book on animals the other day. Well, when I got to the section on snakes I noticed something. When snakes bite they usually go for a defensive bite first. The bite doesn't release any venom but it makes people stay away." He says

"So you're saying that it bit her in self-defense?" Jeongguk asks "Maybe. Look at it this way, the zombies are changing, they're getting smarter, faster, harder to kill. And maybe, this is still just a theory but maybe they're learning how to use their bites to scare people into thinking they're gonna turn when it was just a harmless bite. That way it tricks us into thinking that we need to kill each other in order to not turn." He says and I close my eyes "Look. I don't wanna be a buzz kill or anything, but whatever it is. I don't have very much time left and we all know that." I say

"Elena I'm not gonna kill you." Jeongguk says "I know you won't. So give the gun to someone who will." I say and the room falls silent "who here do you think is gonna wanna kill you?" Jin asks, anger lacing his voice. "Exactly Elena! No one wants to and no one is going to!" He yells and everyone remains silent "Then give me the fucking gun and I'll do it myself" I say and bella looks at me shocked "you can't be serious" kora says "I am. So let's stop beating around the bush, and get to the point. I am going to die today, one way or another." I say

"Stop." Jimin says and kneels beside me "Please. Just stop" he says, taking my hand in his "let's wait it out." Hobi says and everyone looks at him "It sounds crazy but let's wait it out. Tomorrow we'll know if it's the real thing or if we almost killed her over nothing" he says "Fine. But if I'm trying to eat you tomorrow, you asked for it." I say "Let's keep her in the game room for tonight" he says

[Time skip]

I sigh and watch as Jimin paces around the game room "I don't wanna leave you in here all by yourself" he says and I chuckle "Jimin, I'll be fine. Hopefully but just go back inside and sleep in your room tonight. If I do turn by morning...I don't want you to have to see it." I say
