Wala ako sa mood nang bumalik kung saan naroon si Manong Rudy. My siblings were already there carrying their big luggages. Nawala ang gana ko na batiin sila dahil lumilipad ang isip ko dahil sa nangyari kanina.
"What's with the long face, Graciella?" Ate Cecilia asked with her brows up.
"Nothing," sinubukan kong wag umirap.
Sa tuwing naiinis ako, nasisira talaga ang araw ko. I just can’t help it.
Rahim tapped my shoulders and nudged them to his side. Hugging me sideway. "Don't be grumpy. I brought homecoming sweets for Lianna and you," he said, and kissed the side of my forehead.
Tumango na lang ako. Kinuha ko ang maleta ni Ate para ako na lang ang humila, binigay niya naman iyon ng buong puso.
At dahil doon mas naging malaya siya na gawing fashion runway ang airport. With those clicking heels, and the way she walk like a runway model, she caught everyone's attention. Lahat ay napapatingin sa kanya. She was fast as if time was not on her side, like always.
I visited her office once in Makati, I was dared by Rahim to be her secretary even for just a day. And sadly I can say, I'll never do it again. Maglalakad pa lang papasok ng kompanya niya at bisitahin ang iba't ibang department head ay hindi na halos maka-keep up ang lakad ko sa sobrang bilis niyang magtrabaho. Hands down to her secretaries who can keep up with her.
"She's at it again..." Rahim has the same reaction I have as we looked at our older sister from a distance. Sinuot niya ang sunglasses at sinuot and hoodie ng kanyang white jacket at bagot na hinila ang sariling maleta.
Buong biyahe pauwi, I would constantly remember that annoying guy I met at the airport. It makes my blood boil a hundred degrees more.
I can't tell anyone about what happened. Most importantly, not my siblings. Pag-umabot kay Abuela or Papa they would hunt that guy. Especially Rahim.
I can't remember exactly when did he started to be so protective but I think it was when we were in highschool. Highschool ako nang unang nagkaroon ng manliligaw. I gave everyone who dared to court me a chance to prove themselves. Sadly until now, none of them succeeded.
Rahim investigated every guy that courted me. Kapag may nalalaman siya ay binabalaan niya ako agad, kapag naman sobra ang nalaman niya ay parang kinakausap niya ang lalake. Nag-aalala nga ako dati dahil bigla na lang hindi nagpapakita ang manliligaw ko. Kinausap na pala ni Rahim at hindi na nagpakita.
Ngayon ay iniisip ko kung malaman niya ang mangyari... Mas mabuti talagang sarilinin ko na lang.
Bakit ba kasi hindi ko napigilan agad?
"Graciella, may iniisip ka ba? Kanina ka pa umiiling at seryoso diyan," tanong ni ate. Napatingin rin tuloy si Rahim sa akin sa rear mirror. He was sitting at the front seat. While Ate and I we're in the backseat.
"Nothing," I lied.
A few minutes of silence passed until Ate talked to me again. Kinamusta niya sila Mama at Lian sa akin. Lian is our six-year old sibling. Apat lang naman kaming magkakapatid.
"Do they miss me?" she asked eagerly.
"See for yourself later," I ended, thinking that I needed a nap. But she found another topic.
"Oh by the way, Rahim. Nakita ko sila Razi kanina kapatid niya ata yung kasama niya. Tapos narinig ko rin sa showbiz news na nakita daw si Isaiah sa Airport ng NAIA."
"Razi Hiñago?” tanong ni Rahim. “Baka ngayon lang rin sila nakauwi…”
I suddenly remember the invitation that my friend gave me. Binigyan ako ni Satari ng invitation para sa upcoming birthday party ng Lolo nila. The reason why Natalia Cecelia also came home a bit earlier than she planned.
