"We have a league this coming foundation day. As well as the booths, games, and entertainment. And of course, the NMSU fireworks on the last night of our three-day foundation ceremony."
Naghiyawan ang ibang estudyante dahil sa anunsyo ni Ms. Roxas sa mismong gymnasium kung saan lahat kami ay pinagsama-sama.
The NMSU foundation day is where most of the students who are prone to fail will work hard to cover up, make up, and tamper with scores with their plus points earned throughout the foundation. Of course, this is the season when we will be able to show the people coming from the outside what our strengths are.
"This is the exhausting part again," reklamo ni Lau na nasa gilid ko. Ayaw niya sa ganito dahil nakakapagod daw at totoo naman.
We will make a booth again, just like last year. And that's tiring.
"So, what will be our theme for the upcoming foundation day?" Lyn asked, our class representative. We are gathered inside a random classroom in the College of Health Sciences.
A lot of suggestions emerged. Some say gothic, and others would say medieval or baroque. I was less interested in it. I would know what my role would be. Last year, I was a waitress at our Harajuku-style café. Isa kami sa may pinakamataas na sales last year.
"Lau, do you have any idea?" biglang tanong sa kanya ni Lyn.
Humalukipkip lang ang kaibigan ko. "Let's opt for dark themes this year."
"Gothic?" Lyn clarified.
"Haunted house," Lau answered.
I heard some reaction from our blockmates, but they were positive. Hanggang si Boks, the clown of the class, retorted.
"So may gagawin tayong manananggal?" he asked. He then pointed me. "Walang matatakot kay Mondiego, Rivas."
Grabe, ako agad? Baka bumaba ang sales natin. Wala rin naman akong magawa. I need something to do, and I am even thankful that I had this opportunity.
"Nowie, could pull a medieval vampire look," sabi naman ni Lau. Pinanlakihan ko siya ng mata pero kinibitan niya ako ng balikat.
"That's a great idea!" Lyn agreed as if she had something in mind. "So ano, guys? Haunted house?"
"May mga dissected frogs naman tayong panakot. Maybe we can borrow all of it for the effect," suhestiyon ng isa.
Hindi ko alam kung bakit may mga dissected frogs kami. Hindi naman kami BS Biology.
"So haunted house it is. Any objections?" tanong ni Lyn.
"Wala," Sagot naming lahat.
I have nothing against my role in the upcoming foundation day. I'm even lucky to be included every year. All of my friends have their own specific roles to play. Claire will have practice after school for the marching band, and she also has to practice for the cheerleading competition in which she will lead. Two of the Hinagos will play basketball for the Sports League between universities. Like UAAP.
Si Lau naman ay isa sa mga mag-lead ng operations ng booth namin. Si Satari, hindi ko alam kung anong gagawin niya ngayon year, last year ay naging mascot siya. So maybe she will do the same. At alangan namang magpaganda lang ako? Although that doesn't seem like a bad idea...
"Claire, would your practices be at the same time ng practice nila Anton at Rheese?" Satari asked her while we were having lunch. "The three chimpanzees offered me to be the temporary manager of the team."
