kenma was playing star legends on his switch when he heard the first notes to a song all-too familiar to him.

he quickly switched off his game, not caring that it may affect his ranking. he looked up at the stage that was at least twenty meters away from where he was and confirmed that the band was indeed playing one of the most played songs on his spotify playlist that yma-chan made for him not too long ago.

he took the bottle of apple juice and poured himself a glass. he pulled out his phone and gave it to inuoka, silently prodding his underclassman to record the performance.

inuoka grinned at him with a thumbs up before pressing record on the video camera app.

nozomi, the lead singer of the make-shift nippon team band sang the first verse. "to be young and in love in new york city. to not know who i am but still know that i'm good long as you're here with me."

next, it was the green haired guitarist who sang the solo. "to be drunk and in love in new york city. midnight into morning coffee. burning through the hours talking."

his golden cat eyes flitted towards the black haired girl who was artfully going along with the beat without overpowering the vocals and the other instruments.

"damn, i like me better when i'm with you." the team, except ymari, harmonized. "i like me better when i'm with you.."

kenma's mind travelled back to when he first realized he liked her. his heart paced incredulously as he imagined how it would be like if he actually admitted his feelings to the girl he'd been adoring so ardently.

surely, if she would let him down, she'd do it in a kind way, right? he hopes that she doesn't let him down at all, thougy. he hopes that she'd snuggle into his arms and say that she likes him just as much as he does her, and they'd live happily until their time together ends because of the clock of the lives.

he truly liked her. more fervently than the sun ever loved the moon. more than the cosmos could ever fathom. he adored her. and he'd like to let her know that. just.. not now.

utsui sang the next solo. "i knew from the first time, i'd stay for a long time 'cause.."

"i like me better when.." the vocals of the team sang harmoniously.

kenma's eyes met ymari's once again in a paramount gaze, the next lyrics to the song interpreting exactly how he felt about the girl.

"i like me better when i'm with you."
