With great difficulty, I forced my eyes to open. The sun shone brightly and I could hear birds chirping in the distance. I groaned as I tried to move, aggravating the many bruises that littered my body.
I still hadn't had time to process what had occurred at the lair, and I wasn't sure I wanted to. I closed my eyes and sat up. The wave of dizziness that followed was enough to send me retching into a nearby bush.
I walked into a nearby clearing of trees to find a better place to take off. Each step felt like a mile and my gait was uneven and staggering. It felt like I'd never get to that clearing. I almost gave up several times.
Finally, I stood in a circle of sunlight and called to the wind. It felt gentler than usual and carried me without much effort on my part. I didn't know where to go, I just let the wind blindly carry me and struggled to stay conscious for the ride.
It didn't take long before we arrived at a large building in the snow covered mountains. The wind carried me up to a balcony on the second floor. There was some hesitation as it tried to orient my feet in a position I could stand.
I saw the large man with the beard ambling over to the window with a large smile on his face, "Jack!" He said happily.
The wind gently set me down and I wobbled precariously.
"I was wondering if I'd ever see you again, I'm glad you came by!"
I looked up at him and my vision blurred. I suddenly felt each and every injury like they had just been inflicted. My legs gave out and I collapsed.
I felt the man's presence at my side, but I couldn't respond to it. All I could do was lay there silently, trying to get any of my muscles to move.
I tried to find the little girl, my safe place, but she wasn't there. I couldn't find her anywhere. The thought struck panic into my heart and I could feel my chest constrict.
I need Pitch. Why did I leave him? It was stupid and selfish. I need to get back to him, to make it up to him. Surely it wasn't too late.
I was drowning in a thick fog of incoherent thoughts and screaming pain.
"Jack-" a feminine voice cut through the fog and pulled me back to reality.
I opened my eyes and at once, a tearing pain ripped through my body. I cried out, clutching my head. I saw the winged lady, Tooth, swimming in my vision. She seemed to be saying something that I couldn't hear.
A second wave of pain overcame my senses and I cried out again. My head felt like it was going to explode and every limb was on fire.
I could feel hands on my head and some sort of hardware holding my neck in place. It was too much. It felt like Pitch had me held up against the wall again.
I struggled against the sensation in vain, until I felt cool air surround me. I felt the ice growing along my skin, covering me in a blanket of coldness. It calmed my panic just like the wind and I found my eyes sliding shut - into a silent world.
I hope this is going good and that it's at least slightly interesting. I usually write to calm myself down, or to help my creativity, but I still love to see that someone else likes what I've done.
A rare North POV next chapter.
