Selene was shaken awake by Mateo and she kicked him in the face before registering her surroundings. Seeing Mateo glare at her, she rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly.  "don't wake her up in the morning," Yelena said casually.

"that's why you refused?" Mateo turned to her, rolling his eyes. "I should have known."  Selene was pretty sure Yelena would have rather carried her on her back than risk waking her up. Especially now that she could summon stars out of thin air.

"Splash her in the face with water, or give her chocolate. That's the only way she'll be able to do anything." Yelena stated. Selene grumpily sat up and rubbed her eyes, yawning. Mateo yawned too.

"Stop your yawning festival," Drew came over to Selene, "please," she drawled when she saw the look Selene gave her before she yawned again.

"My legs are cramped like hell," Yelena stretched her leg against the side of the car. "This is probably the most annoying thing ever." Selene was pretty sure that Yelena would start doing yoga any minute until she looked at the time. "We'll get late if you don't get up," Yelena dragged her out of the van and they looked at the subway when they reached.

"Isn't it dangerous to be in an enclosed place?" Selene asked since the monster attacks from the past few days had started to really grate on her nerves.

"It's faster," Mateo said, and then hid Selene's knife up to her sleeve and made sure their weapons couldn't be seen. "This is better, the faster we get to camp half-blood, the lesser we get injured."

"Less injured," Yelena muttered under her breath, and Selene looked towards her, confused.

"We train at camp," Yelena looked ready to roll her eyes," we have capture the flag with swords. Of course we're going to get injured Mateo."

Selene wondered what type of capture the flag was playing with swords, and how the hell that was called safe. But it was probably better than getting attacked by monsters on a daily basis since that was probably Selene's least favourite thing. Except biting ice cream. She hated freezing her teeth. It was horrible.  How Yelena managed to bite ice cream without feeling anything astonished Selene, but it wasn't like Yelena was going to answer the question.

The subway was too long for Selene, whose ADHD kept acting up. She was barely able to sit still, pacing the length of the train the whole time. Yelena had to force her to get back down, telling her she was wasting too much energy, which Selene personally thought she had too much off.

They finally reached and Selene dramatically jumped off. It wasn't high enough for a superhero landing which would have been great, but Yelena said it also could break her bones so Selene decided to be wise (finally) and waited for the others to get out.

"Having a satyr would be great," Drew groaned, "I hate not knowing when we're going to die."

"That's pessimistic," Selene said, frowning slightly.

"No shit," Drew muttered, "our whole life is anyways going to be like that so we might as well prepare."

"Guys shut up," Yelena interrupted, "We're almost there so you might as well bicker when we are at camp." She scowled at Drew, softened her expression when her eyes met Selene's (causing a furious roll of eyes by Drew) and then continued onwards.  "Matty?" She raised her eyebrow, "do your thing."

Mateo winced for some reason far beyond Selene's knowledge and told them to stay where they were. "I'll go with him," Selene volunteered, hoping that he could teach her something about it. Mateo nodded tiredly and they both set off.

The alleys were dark since it was near nighttime, but nowhere near empty. Mateo had an attachment with vans for some reason (he was getting weirder by the second) and they finally found one, no owner around. There was a guy in the distance, and seeing Mateo's face, it was no guy.

Selene felt a pure wave of terror. She'd had enough of the past few days, all the injuries. She should have stayed with her parents. She inched backwards and was about to duck into another alleyway when suddenly there was a flying projectile.

She ducked almost on instinct, but that was a mistake. The projectile slammed into her stomach and her head hit the wall. She briefly saw Mateo, but- She couldn't identify his features. There was another thing- right? Oh yes the monster. Her vision faded to black as she tried to process all the last bit of information she could.
