Chapter 4: Infected

The warm water swept across my aching muscles like a gentle caress. Finally feeling safe and relaxed, I sighed under the showerhead and rested my forehead against the cool, ivory tiled wall. Everything is alright now...everything will be the same. I chanted to myself mentally, hoping that somehow, if I'd repeated it enough, it may just be the truth. This scattered, irrational, and unpredictable person wasn't me and I needed to quickly shut out yesterday's events if I had any hope of regaining my composure.

Standing here, under the constant stream of water, I felt my darkest memories drift towards the surface of my consciousness. I knew if I were going to conquer my fears and move on, then I'd have to first face them. Taking deep breaths, I put my hands against the wall to steady myself.

Eyes, the first thing I'd thought of were eyes and more importantly, eyes the colour of blood. I could picture them clearly, animalistic and impeccably terrifying piercing straight into the depths of my soul. Even though it'd been late at night, I undoubtedly remember their iridescent glow.

Bellow them were fangs, which were horrible, sharp, and extremely lethal, evident beneath the creature's dark sneer. Taking one final step back, I could imagine the black, demonic wolf as if it were in front of me now. Though, something bothered me terribly about the wolves I'd encountered after leaving the caged fighting arena.

From what I can remember, those demonic wolves were nothing like the animals Hayden and his component had morphed into but instead, aside from their strange appearance, I was petrified of them but... deep down I knew I hadn't been of Hayden. How did any of this make sense? Were they not the exact same creatures?

Swallowing hard, I rubbed my neck roughly to shake off the gooseflesh breaking across my skin. Although, the moment I touched the bare skin at the nape of my neck I froze as my fingers brushed a sensitive and swollen cut. Oh god. I snapped right then and there, loosing every bit of fragile strength I'd gained over these past few hours.

Without a thought, I fingered the back of my neck to outline the mark left there. I knew it had happened and I could remember every second of it now, even through the concussed state I'd been in. The black, demonic wolf pack had not only attacked me but...I'd been bitten. In that very moment I could only do one possible thing to grasp the turmoil sprouting through my body.
