Chapter 7: For Love

Honestly though, how many more truths can I take being smacked into my face? For a moment, I couldn’t handle the stress pounding through my body and I began to hyperventilate.

“W-What?” I asked breathlessly as I placed my hand onto my heaving chest.

“I’m so sorry. I know there’s so much to explain,” the hazel-eyed man sighed and rubbed out the frown appearing on his forehead.

“Why don’t you start of by telling me whom you are, and how in the world you know my mother?” I probed, feeling my gasps beginning to decrease. At that, I watched Hayden sigh with relief and step back to lean against the wall.

“I guess that’s a good start,” the man smiled sadly and approached the bed hesitantly. “I am the Alpha of the Northern Ice Wolves and my name is Christopher Larson. I met your mother seventeen years ago and she…well I…I’ve been in love with her ever since,” He replied, barely above a whisper as the most heart-breaking flash of hurt welled into his glassy eyes.

“Okay,” I whispered dully as I felt my stomach churn sadly. Just catching a glimpse of the look in Christopher’s eyes instantly had me feeling emotional.

“Would you like me start from the beginning?” He asked, giving me a small smile.

Not trusting the strength of my voice, I nodded quickly and drew my knees up to my chest.

About five minutes later Will, Riley, Seth and Rowan’s beta named Tyler had joined us and we scattered around the small room on chairs or sprawled on the floor. As for Hayden, he took his familiar seat on the windowsill and his father stood professionally by the door.

“Alright, so where to begin…” Christopher sighed as I turned to the chair to my left. “Just hear me out and then I’ll answer any questions at the end, okay?” He stated tentatively.

Nodding slowly, I let my chin rest on my huddled knees as he cleared his throat.

“Under the current circumstances, I expect your mother may have stated things solely for the benefit of your protection…though they may not have been accurate,” Christopher sighed before continuing.

Alright…my mother lied…okay…I’m not going to freak.

“This all started when your mother was a younger woman, fresh out of her second year at Dartmouth college at the age of twenty. During her summer break she met a man, not much older than herself, named Alaric Lockridge and evidently, he was the werewolf of a highly influential and mighty pack called the Black Moon. After a summer together, your mother Lynn, and Alpha Alaric, began to realize their relationship bloomed and soon enough your mother was not only exposed to the werewolf world but also, became in line to be Alaric’s bride,” Christopher’s jaw tensed slightly before he began straightening in his chair.
