Chapter 13: Plan of Action

I held onto Hayden’s hand tightly as we trudged up the familiar staircase to Christopher’s office where we were to meet everyone for an important debriefing. Though I was still a little shaken by my dark thoughts, I felt much stronger today – both mentally and physically. Thanks to Hayden, I no longer felt afraid of my future as a lycan but instead… hopeful. Of course, I did not wish this fate on myself but if I thought about it, I may just truly believe that everything may have happened for a reason. Becoming a lycan will give me the strength I need to fight for redemption and those I love.

“Good morning Hayden, Cassidy, I hope you slept well,” Christopher announced once Hayden and I slipped through the office door. I smiled immediately, happy to see him and everyone in the room. A sense of déjà vu crossed over me as I gazed throughout the room to find Seth and Riley hand in hand, and Will against the nearest wall just as they had been back in the City Manor. However, some new presences were also in the room. Turning my gaze, I found Mason, Christopher’s Beta, standing beside him along with his son, Alexander. Also my eyes flashed open once I realized the woman I had met yesterday, with dark pixie-like hair and icy eyes, stood beside Alexander as well. Well, so much for not running into her again.

“We did, thank you,” Hayden nodded, answering for the both of us.

“Alright then, if everyone is ready, I would like to begin,” Christopher began as Hayden and I moved toward Will. Giving him a small smile, I pressed myself close to his side just as Christopher continued.

“First and foremost, welcome to the pack each of you. Now with that said, there are a few things we must address. As you know, Alpha Alaric of the Black Moon pack has been hunting feverishly for you, Cassidy. It is believed that their goal is simple: to withhold you captive in their pack in order to lure your Mother, Lynn, from hiding. From there, if they were to succeed, I am unsure of Alaric’s future plans. However, this pack and our allies will do absolutely everything to keep you safe,” Christopher’s eyes were hard and distant throughout his speech.

“In terms of the condition of our enemies, I regretfully must inform all of you that Alpha Alaric has injected his wolves with a inhumane, muscle-based steroid. Therefore they are at their physical peaks making them much more difficult to face if and when, attacks arise. Also, this steroid has stripped each wolf from its mental stability and ability to morph making them… much more animal than human. It is important to understand then that they do comprehend speech and movement in the same way that we do. They are hunters with one direct scent and prey in mind, above all else,” Christopher nodded in my direction, causing my stomach to twist in fear.

“Thus, precautions must be put in place to prepare this pack, and those involved, for the battles ahead. I have made the very difficult decision to gather an elite group of the most lethal and skilled fighters throughout this pack, and the country. This Ice Wolf territory is a very old, ancient pack with many wolves jumping at the chance to defend and become apart of our land. I have chosen to gather these fighters for one reason – to fight. What we experienced in the city hospital was not some random event. Alaric will stop at nothing to continue hunting for you, Cassidy, and once he finds out you have come here… I have no doubt there will be another war blazing. So, I have made the decision that we will not sit back and await his next move but instead, make our own. If we want this to end then we must fight for justice on our terms. I have gathered my most skilled wolves so that we, as a collective, will challenge Alaric at his own game and hunt for him. There are many plans evolving in part to this departing hunt and I will continue to update you all on further tactics. However, for right now, I must inform you all of my current thoughts,” Christopher nodded, placing his hands on his desk and looking at each of us.
