When the clock turns to midnight on the day of my birthday, I am lying awake on top of my made bed. I have been lying awake, waiting for this time to arrive, so I can check what my eye color has turned, too.
Carefully and quietly, I roll off the bed to my feet ti walk to the door to silently open it slowly. All of the lights are off in the house including my bedroom since everyone is asleep. Using my flashlight off my phone to light the way, I am inaudible as I walk to the bathroom.
Shutting the bathroom door behind me, I point the flashlight toward my face as I stare at myself in the mirror.
My eyes are fucking Red.
Red. My eye color is fucking Red. I am now considered bad, and I now cannot stay or associate with my friends and family.
I have my stuff already packed in case this happened. I stored my bags under my bed, so I can grab and go if I needed to leave tonight. Soundlessly, I make my way back to my bedroom, I grab my three bags, and my wallet and keys in order to leave.
Pulling a white envelope from one of the bags with my families names neatly written across the front. I had prewritten a letter to them for the worst case scenario.
My written letter reads:
'My dear family,
I want to start off by saying that I love you all greatly. I had to leave you all because I am a Red. I have decided to leave before everyone is awake in the morning. I don't want the painful goodbyes with you all, so this is mine.
I am sorry I am taking away your goodbyes to me if you want, too. I can't handle the possibility if no one will be sad to see me leave like I am heartbroken to leave you all.
I am heading off on my own, and I have taken a few belongings with me, so I will be fine. I have some money, too. I know this maybe selfish of me, then so be it. I am not sure where I am going, but it will be fine.
Mum - I want to thank you for loving me as any mummy loves their child. Thank you for teaching me to cook, to do my laundry, and things like that. I love you very much!
Dad - I want to thank you for being understanding whenever I screwed up in the past. Thank you for teaching me how to work on cars when these broke down. I love you, too!
Abel - Thank you for being the best big brother a person could ever ask for! Thank you for teaching me how to be comfortable with who I am, and always having my back. I love you, big brother!'
Lying the envelope on top of my dark blue colored pillow case. Taking one last glance around the room that has been mine for the last eighteen years, I stealthy exit my room, take the stairs down, and head out of the front door of the house.
Rushing to the car, I toss everything onto the passenger side seat of my car before starting the engine. Backing out of the driveway, I drive toward the next town over where I plan on staying for at least a night or two until I decide if I am staying there or not.
Two hours later, I finally arrive at my destination, and I can't help but sigh in relief at my arrival at a hotel. I had stopped an hour into the drive to search for and book myself a hotel room using my emergency credit card.
Parking the car, turning off the engine, I grab my belongings before heading inside the hotel to check-in, and get my room key from the front desk.
"Hello, and welcome to 'The Red Room Inn,'" a middle aged man warmly greets as I enter the lobby.
Smiling weakly at him as I stop at the desk while I softly say; "Hi. I, um, booked a room here an hour ago online. My name is Arrow Reid."
He instantly smiles at me as he flips through a large book where he finds my name; "Here you are. You are in room 333, and here is your key, young man."
He slides a plastic credit card looking key thing across the counter toward me as he says; "You are all checked in. I hope you have a wonderful stay here, and welcome to the city of Redmore. I hope you enjoy our town for however long you are here."
"Thank you, sir," daddy I murmur as I take the key card off the counter to head to the elevator.
Taking the lift to the third floor, I exit when it reaches the floor, and I follow the sign on the wall to my room. Reaching my room, I swipe the key card in the slot, and open the door when it clicks open.
Entering the room, I let out a tired sigh as I shut and lock the door behind me before dropping my bags on top of the dresser. Stripping off my clothes, I leave these on the floor where they land, find my phone charger form a bag, plug my phone into charge on the end table, and then lie down on the bed under the covers.
I fall asleep once my head hits the pillow since I am exhausted. Several hours later, I am startled awake by my phone's loudly ringing. I roll onto my right side to grab the phone to see who the fuck is calling me, and what time it is - Abel is calling, and it is 8 a.m.
Sliding my thumb across the phone screen to answer his call; "Yeah?"
"Where the fuck are you?" he growls deeply causing me to loudly sigh.
"Ab, you know I can't tell you," I softly answer as I tiredly rub my eyes. "I am a Red, and you are a Blue, and you know we can't associate at all with each other."
"Arrow, you know you could wear blue colored contacts," my brother mumbles with a wobbly voice.
"You know I can't do that," I gently tell him. "If I get caught doing this, you know there will be horrible consequences for me."
Abel doesn't verbally reply, he just breaks down in harsh sobs. We spend the next hour on the phone before hanging up. I promised him that I would occasionally let him know where and how I am doing whenever I can.
