Author's Note: Hey there! Welcome to my fanfic. So I'm really just writing this because I've always wanted to write a marauder's fanfic and I hope you enjoy reading this. I would love to know your thought so feel free to comment below what you feel or if you have any suggestions or feedback. Have a great day!(or night considering when you actually are reading this.)
The day had come, the very day she dreamt of ever since she heard about Hogwarts. Yes, today Rose finally got her Hogwarts letter. For a child of eleven, she was one of the brightest happy go lucky girls one could possibly imagine meeting. However, today her mind was chaotic as she sat down by the kitchen counter with not one, but three invitation letters. Deep in thought, she stared down at the invitations she received from Hogwarts, Durmstrang and Ilvermony. With her Polish roots, she was expecting a letter from Durmstrang. However she had decided earlier that she wouldn't give the school a chance. Lucille had made sure that she was quite honest and upfront with her daughter from the very beginning. Rose recalled instances where her mother mentioned the school's association with Dark Arts. Furthermore, it was common knowledge that the current Headmaster of Durmstrang was a former Death Eater and this only increased her determination to go elsewhere. Letting out a sigh, she moved the Durmstrang invitation to the far end of the counter.
One down, one more to go she thought. Rose found it absurd that she had to choose a school without attending a demo first. Both were prestigious institutions located on either sides of the world. She had a chance to visit Ilvermony once with her Grams and after their visit, Rose went on for weeks discussing the school's architecture and beauty with anyone willing to listen. She was fascinated with the four animal houses and the legends behind them. Like Isolt the founder and descendent of Salazar Slytherin, her favourite mythical creature was the Horned Serpent. She knew that she would be happy in Ilvermony, especially considering the time she would get to spend with her Grams Queenie. However, she would be away from the place she grew up in and about 3000 miles away from her mother and her old life. It was also vital that she considered the danger she would be in, given her unique heritage. No she thought, there will be plenty of time to spend with Grams anyway. She does visit her granddaughter as frequently as possible.
On the other hand, Hogwarts was the crème de la crème of schools. She also knew she would be safe as a house with Dumbledore as Headmaster. She would get to go to school with Alice and the others. Alice, she thought. A few months after she moved to the cottage, she stumbled across Alice Fortescue and the rest was history. They went straight from toddlers who had garden tea parties to baking bread in the present. In the last decade, the Fortescue and the Malfoy became partners in crime, infectiously spreading joy in their neighbourhood. Leaving behind Alice seemed impossible and the more Rose thought about it, the more she was sure that Hogwarts was where she was meant to be.
She jumped when she felt a hand on her shoulder but settled just as quickly when her mother's laugh filled the room. Lucille hugged her daughter and sat down next to her. She knew that Rose was preoccupied with the letters for a long time now and predicted that the eleven year old spent the entire day over thinking. Rose was seated exactly in the same spot Lucille last saw her before she left to the Ministry that noon which only confirmed her suspicion. As she poured herself some water she enquired "How was your day then?"
Rose beamed at her mother "Majorly uneventful. I spent most of my time re-reading the letters" this brought another smile to Lucille's face as she continued replying "But I've finally decided where I'm going." With a dramatic pause followed by a light drum roll the girl built suspense. "It's Hogwarts!"
"Darling that's great." Her mother laughed before bringing Rose in for another hug. " What brought it on? Yesterday you were leaning more towards Ilvermony."
