Lilystar's Demise

Chapter 1

"Are their eyes open yet?" "No, not yet, after all they were only born yesterday" "Hopefully their eyes are open soon to see their father!" Lilykit stirred in her nest and cuddled closer to her sister, Hazelkit. "Bristletail wouldn't want to miss them before they leave the nursery for the first time" Stormbreeze added. "Hillkit and Featherkit opened theirs before Thrushfur could see them." Lilykit felt Hazelkit stir as a mew came from her mouth. "Well Won't you look at that," Their mother, Raintail, began. "Hazelkit's eyes are open." Lilykit felt annoyance as Hazelkit climbed over her. "Raintail, since I opened my eyes may I leave the nursery?" Lilykit heard Hazelkit ask, "Not until your sister opens her eyes," Raintail flicked her tail. "I want you two to stick together when you leave the nursery." "Plus your father is going to visit you before you leave." Stormbreeze told Hazelkit. "Come on Hazelkit, lets rest for now" Raintail said wrapping her tail around Hazelkit pulling her toward her.

Lilykit stirred in her nest getting closer to her mothers milk-warm belly. She heard Hazelkit talking about being a warrior someday, I'm going to be a warrior!  Lilykit pressed against her mother then crawled away. She sat there for a moment thinking. "When will you open your eyes, Lilykit?" Hazelkit cried. Lilykit opened her eyes and looked at her sister who was mewling, "You promised you'd open them a little after me" Hazelkit mewled, "But I did" Lilykit protested. Hazelkit looked up at her "Your eyes are open," Hazelkit started. "Now we can go explore camp." "Hillkit and Featherkit are already outside, let's go find them!" Hazelkit mewed. Lilykit followed Hazelkit closer to the opening, This was the first time she got a glance of the nursery. It was filled with cats and huge! She looked over at Stormbreeze, she expected her to smell the same but she was different, she didn't have kits and she didn't smell of milk. Hazelkit was near the exit, which was a hole in the bramble wall, waiting for her sister. Lilykit looked at her, "Where is Stormbreeze's kits?" "They won't arrive for another moon" Hazelkit answered, arrive? Where are they at?  She got closer to the exit, as she was about to push out of the bramble walls with her sister she felt a soft tail pull her back. Hazelkit looked back, "Where do you think you two are going?" Raintail's soft voice came from behind her. "Outside," Lilykit said looking back. "Why?" Raintail's green eyes sparkled, "You've opened your eyes!" Raintail said licking her right paw. "Can we leave the nursery now?" Hazelkit asked wanting to leave. "Do you two think you could wait until Your father has had a chance to meet you with your eyes opened?" Hazelkit looked upset. Lilykit looked at Hazelkit and back "When will he be here?" "Soon" Raintail said her eyes glittering. Lilykit looked back at Hazelkit, "Ok..." Hazelkit said disappointed.

Lilykit was woken by leaves rustling. "Hazelkit?" she said tiredly, "Bristletail is here!" Hazelkit said as she climbed over Raintail waking her. Raintail rose her head and looked over her shoulder. "Wait for me Hazelkit" Lilykit said as she climbed over Raintail as well. He was tall! Raintail rose and stretched immediately covering Lilykit and Hazelkit from being seen. "Hey Bristletail" Raintail said smiling, "Hello Raintail," Bristletail replied. "Where are our kits?" He said eagerly. Raintail moved her tail to reveal two kits, one hazel colored which gave her her name Hazelkit and bright green eyes, and one silver tabby with white ear tips, a white muzzle, her chest fur which had white in the middle outlined with grey, a white tail tip, her paws white, and her eyes a dark blue, Raintail says she smells like Lilies which gave her the name Lilykit. Bristletail smiled "They are lovely" He said as his ears pricked up. "Hey I have to go I'm going on the Border Patrol" "Bye Bristletail" "Bye" they both said as they nuzzled each other. They watched as he left "Can we leave the nursery now?" Hazelkit mewled. Raintail nodded as she laid down in her nest.

Lilykit followed Hazelkit as they pushed out of the brambles and into the light of sundown. "Look over there Hillkit and Featherkit!" Hazelkit pointed out. Lilykit followed her over to them. "Hello!" Hazelkit squeaked. "You two have opened your eyes!" Featherkit mewed, Lilykit tried stretching her legs to look taller than Hillkit and Featherkit. The newleaf breeze hit their face. "We should probably already go back to the nursery" Hazelkit said making her way to the nursery, "We can explore some other time!" Hazelkit said as Lilykit followed her. It was moonhigh when Hazelkit and Lilykit squeezed through the brambles of the nursery. "what did you see little ones!" Raintail said as Lilykit and Hazelkit snuggled against her. "Not a lot yet" Lilykit replied, yawning. "Don't worry you can explore more tomorrow" Raintail said as she licked Lilykit and Hazelkit to sleep. Lilykit heard her mother say one last thing before she fell asleep, "Good night you two." Raintail said as Lilykit fell into a deep sleep.
