Lilystar's Demise

Chapter 12

Lilystream hissed with annoyance as Spottedpaw touched her belly. Spottedpaw's ears shot back. "Don't worry Spottedpaw most queens are grumpy when they are kitting" Lilystream's growl grew louder, "You'd be grumpy too if you were having kits!" Lilystream managed to have her first kit. Foxpelt lapped at the sack as Lilystream meowed in pain. "Congratulations! Your first kit is a she-kit!" Foxpelt licked he kit clean and laid her next to Lilystream. Foxpelt felt Lilystream's belly, "One more to go" Lilystream hissed as she managed to have her last kit. The pain slowed down making Lilystream stop meowing and hissing. Foxpelt lapped at the sack releasing a tom, Foxpelt licked the kit clean and laid it next to Lilystream's pelt. a familiar voice rung in Lilystream's ears, "Good job" Lilystream heard Hazelbreeze say. Thank you Hazelbreeze. Thornpelt came into the nursery, "How is she?" Foxpelt looked at Thornpelt, "She's fine, she had one she-kit and a tom!" Thornpelt laid down next to Lilystream. "Your kits will grow up to be great warriors" Lilystream smiled. "What will you name them?" Thornpelt asked. "I will name the she-kit Ripplekit and the tom Rockkit" Thornpelt smiled, "I love those names!"

Lilystream watched Ripplekit and Rockkit playfully attacking each other in the snow. "Lilystream! Keep your kits under control!" Hillbreeze said pointing at them climbing the high rock. "Ripplekit! Rockkit! Come down from there this instant!" Lilystream's kits came running around her. Lilystream giggled, "You two are playful ones aren't you?" "I will catch you Rockkit!" Ripplekit mewed escaping from her mothers tail. Lilystream saw Gooseleaf who was growling almost. "This wasn't part of the prophecy! It didn't say but first the dog will have children!" Gooseleaf hissed. "We can't let Spikeclaw become leader!" Gooseleaf hissed once more. "How can I become deputy though?" Gooseleaf looked deeply into her eyes, "They have a father to go to, Don't they?" Lilystream's fur prickled with fear as she tilted her head. "Oakbreeze, I saw you two together, Isn't he the true father?" Lilystream nodded, "Please, don't tell anyone" Gooseleaf shook his head, "Never would I tell anyone a secret." Lilystream was glad he said that. "He is always getting a drink from the river around this time, I will go talk to him." Gooseleaf nodded as he padded back to the elders' den. "Thornpelt, I need fresh air can you watch Ripplekit and Rockkit" Thornpelt sat up. "Of course!" Lilystream smiled as she headed out to the river. Lilystream saw Oakbreeze but there were two other cats waiting for him. Oakbreeze saw Lilystream, "Go ahead and head back to camp I will meet you guys there" The two cats padded off. "Hello Oakbreeze" "Hello Lilystream" Lilystream was surprised when Oakbreeze asked about their kits. "So How many kits did you have and what's their names?" Lilystream smiled. "One she-kit and one tom, Their names are Ripplekit and Rockkit." Oakbreeze smiled. "I wish I could see them" Lilystream's smile faded. "You will see them" Oakbreeze was puzzled, "You see I must become deputy before Spikeclaw does or my clan will die off." Oakbreeze was almost growling. "Don't you love your kits? Don't you want them?" Lilystream sighed. "I love them very much and I want to keep them, but i have to keep my clan from dying." Oakbreeze smiled. "I will take them, if that's what you're asking. Windclan needs more cats and your clan needs to survive." Lilystream smiled. "Meet me here tonight. Thank you Oakbreeze." Lilystream headed back to camp.

Thornpelt was playing Hide-and-seek with Ripplekit and Rockkit. Longstar's meow startled Lilystream. Longstar hade a familiar body in his jaws. "Lavenderpaw?" Lilystream saw the she-cats body. "She froze to death when she fell in the water and couldn't get out all the way. Newleaf is coming and the Ice is melting." Lilystream wrapped her tail around Hazelbreeze's kit. Spikeclaw saw his limp kit as Longstar let Lilystream have time with the apprentice. "What did you do this time! First you didn't save my mate from the monster coming and now my kit is dead!" Spikeclaw whispered but was so close to Lilystream's ear she could hear his hiss. Lilystream starred at him. "I warned Hazelbreeze about the monster coming! and if I knew Lavenderpaw had fell into the water I would have grabbed her and brought her back to warmth!" Spikeclaw looked at her pushing her away from his kit. Lilystream left him to mourn over his own kit. Lilystream grabbed her kits scruffs and carried them back to the nursery. "Lilystream! put us down!" Ripplekit hissed. Rockkit and Ripplekit sadly plopped down in their nest. Lilystream curled her tail around  her kits as she fell into deep dreams.
