Dream #1

As usual, the cafe was packed. But I managed to stand up while waiting for a seat to become available, and thankfully, after much patience, I now have one.

I was sitting alone at a two-seater table near the window. I always choose chairs near the window because they allow me to think about a lot of matters.

I've been exhausted for the previous several days. There are so many deadlines that I feel like I'm ready to pass out. If I've had a really stressful week, I go to cafes to unwind.

I was reading a book while sipping my coffee. I was reading Neil Gaiman's Coraline, which has been my favorite novel since I was a kid. It's strange in a fascinating manner, and others think I'm strange for enjoying something so weird.

I adore the story since Coraline and I have a lot in common... I had to leave a lot of friends in town for my parent's business, but thankfully, our new house doesn't have a small door where my other parents would be waiting for me.

I'm aware of what's going on around me... Some people have expressed an interest in sitting with me because it is the only available chair, but when they realize how engrossed I am in my book, they patiently wait for another table place.

I'd offer the chair in front of me, but no one has requested it, so...

"Hello, Miss, is this seat still available?"

I looked up to see the person who had asked me the question that I have been expecting, to see a man standing before me.

He's more than a man... He had the physique of a god.

I just stared at him, forgetting about his inquiry and where I was. And, despite the fact that I am undoubtedly looking foolish and starstruck, I believe he possesses a magnetic field to which I am attracted. I can't take my gaze away from him.

"Miss?" and all of a sudden, like a magic word, my senses were restored.

I was mortified, so to save face, I simply pointed to the empty chair in front of me and offered it to him. He immediately grasped the situation.

"Thanks!" He said and settled himself in the chair.

I'm not sure what's wrong with me, but I constantly end up in a maze with his gaze. I was always lost in his blue orbs, and when he spoke, it was like a signal for me to return to the beginning.

"So, what's your name?" He asked.

"I'm Kei. How about you?" I answered.

Nice one, Kei. Keep up with the good work. Stop losing your sanity.

"Pretty name for a pretty girl like you. Our names are alike. My name is Kai," he introduced and that made me shock as hell.

And when I mean shock, I feel at the moment that I look stupid in front of him.

"Kai... Woah, what a coincidence, are we twins?" I joked. I cringed at that, what a terrible joker I am.

"It's short for Kaiden, but when it's shortened, it is pronounced as ‘Kai’. What about yours?" He said and he laughed at my joke.

He sipped from his coffee mug. I am looking like a weirdo that keeps noticing every movement he makes.

"Just Kei. Nothing else, it's not a short for anything."

And our discussion just kept going on and on. We never ran out of things to ask one other, and we talked about things I never thought I'd talk about with anyone.

"I was actually meeting up with someone, but he never showed up," he said after looking at his wrist watch.

"A friend?" I didn't mean to be nosy, I am hating myself from sounding so nosy.

He nodded and smiled.

"I need to go. May I ask for your phone number? I'd like to keep in touch with you," he told me.

My heart feels like it's skipping a few beats.

I grabbed my phone from the table and looked through my contacts with trembling hands. I handed him my phone so he could make a copy of my number.

And because of that, our fingers touched for a brief moment, but it's enough that a million electric waves shot through me. It made me shudder. He remained unaware of what's happening to me.

He grabbed it and entered my phone number into his phone.

"Thanks, Kei. See you soon," he smiled at walks away.

I see him from the window, he's getting into a car, and he drives away, but my eyes follow him till he's gone.

I left the cafe after listing the events of the day, and I couldn't help but feel ecstatic. He got my phone number and stated that he would like to stay in touch with me! He's the real deal, I swear...

He met or exceeded my expectations... He even raised the bar for me. I can't believe a guy like him exists.

I returned home and immediately went to bed. I was still nervous and felt like a lovesick girl when I awakened when my alarm began wreaking havoc on my head.

I became aware that I had woke up... It was all just a dream.

I was cursing myself to the core before I even got out of bed, kicking and banging my bed with my hands. I was enraged at how things had ended out.

I assumed I'd met him! He's the one I've been seeking for... The man of my dreams is already standing in front of me, only for me to wake up and find it was all a dream!

I started the day with a blue day ahead of me. I'm still reeling from the fact that I was duped. That was it, I thought I had finally found my happily ever after.

"You look disappointed and mad. What happened?" A friend asked me after our professor dismissed us.

"I had a dream last night," I told her.
