Mirabel ran off enthusiastically. You continue to sit, analysing yourself for changes for a moment longer before Camilo distracts you.
"What is... your favourite.. snack?" He asks. He appeared to be making up the question as he said it. You pause for a moment.
"Maybe just chocolate?" You say. You think of all the times you've stolen chocolate and feel a little guilty before distracting yourself. "What about you?"
"Oh yea I could go for some chocolate." He replies and stares into the distance with a relaxed look on his face, most likely thinking about chocolate.
"I hope Mirabel brings some." Isabela chimes in. You and Isabela follow suit and stare at nothing while thoughts of chocolate and stealing and travelling fill your head before Camilo pipes up again. "Does it feel like she's been gone for ages?" He asks with an excited smirk.
You think about it. It feels like she was just here. No wait, it feels like she's been gone for a few minutes. No, actually it feels like she's been gone for hours because you've thought about so much since she's been gone. No, you haven't done anything since she's been gone so it mustn't have been long. Actually, it's been ages since Camilo even asked the question so she must be taking forever!
"I think it hitting you." Camilo says cheekily. Wow, yea it definitely is. You feel confused and also like your mind's eye is more vivid and less under your control. The feeling is almost overwhelming as it ramps up. It's definitely different to alcohol. You look at your hands then do an ok symbol to yourself. It felt somewhat involuntary. You crack up at the thought of your hands telling you it's ok. Camilo joins in and so does Isabela. You try to stop and catch your breath but then you think about how ridiculous it was that you were laughing at your hands in the first place... which makes you laugh. Then you laugh at how you can't stop laughing.
Mirabel returns with some Chocolate and other snacks.
"Yay! Thank you!" You say enthusiastically.
"What are you guys laughing about?"
"... I cannot remember." You say, laughing. She giggles and sits back down with you. You eat some chocolate and it tastes good. You feel like you're fiendish for more until you inevitably get distracted again by something someone says or just your own thoughts. You create vast tapestries in your mind seemingly out of nowhere. Suddenly you get a fright from something. You're not even sure what it was but it takes a lot of effort to not turn invisible. 'Oh no, this was a bad idea, I can't do this.'
Your thoughts start spiralling out of nowhere. You look at Camilo. He's probably bored with you cause you're not saying anything. The girls probably think you are weird and didn't want you to join in. 'Why is no one saying anything?' you think to yourself. They probably just want you to leave. 'This is too overwhelming, what if I'm stuck like this forever? What if I can never focus again? What will papá do?' your thoughts get louder and louder and you look over at Camilo. You swear he looks angry for a second. You can't believe you ever thought he liked you.
"Uh oh." Camilo says. You think you see worry in his eyes. What did you do? Did you turn invisible and not notice? Has he been waiting all this time because he knew about your papá and is going to call you out on it?
"I know that look." He says. You can hear your blood pumping through your ears and he grabs you by the shoulders. 'Oh no, what's happening?' you think.
"You are fine, we are all enjoying your presence, this is fun." He says and gives you a big smile. Before thinking you blurt out "why do you even hang out with me?" You regret it immediately and he looks a little sad before shaking his head.
"You're fun, you put up with me for starters. You've been open to new things. You're clearly resilient from all the travel with your papá. You're chill to be around, and... You're pretty cute." He says looking uncharacteristically bashful. You completely forgot what you were thinking about before.
"OooooOOooo." The girls say.
"Shut up." Camilo retorts.
"So are you." You say, looking down.
"Feeling better?" He says playfully booping you on the nose. You nod, still not making eye contact yet.
"Here." He hands you some more chocolate and you take it thankfully. You look up at him through the lenses of your high and he doesn't seem real. Nothing does. But it's also all completely perfect.
"If you get overwhelmed, do some deep breaths." Isabela says. Everyone then joins in on some deep breathing. It feels so long and smooth. You wonder how your lungs are able to keep expanding. After a breath out you laugh at your own mini freak out and everyone joins in.
