Wide Open spaces

Chapter 17

I feel nothing and I like that but I know I am not dead. The constant beeping of the pulse machine is blearing right next to my bed and right about now I want to pull it out of the wall but when I try to move, I can’t. I slowly open my eyes only to cause myself to blink rapidly from the light that is shining in my room. I groan and try to sit up but I once again I can’t but this time it isn’t because my body isn’t letting, it’s because someone else isn’t. 

“Don’t move Bibi.” I hear someone sigh. I Don’t recognize the voice at first but I keep thinking. My eyes pop open when I remember the voice and I see Jay, my best friend Jay sitting next to me. I open my mouth wide and try to talk but my mouth is to dry.

“Jay?” I ask.

“Yeah its me Bibi.” He says smiling down at me. He hands me a cup filled with water and I drink it greedily and hand the cup back to him. 

“How long have you been awake and how long have I been out?” I question.

“I have been awake for three weeks and you have been out for five I think.” He says looking down into his lap. “I’ll be back.” He also adds before walking out of the room. A few minutes later Jay walks back in with what I assume is a doctor.

“How are you feeling Abigail?” He asks me.

“I am alright my throat hurts but thats about it.” I say smiling. 

“Well my name is Dr. O’conner and now that you are awake we will be able to run a few test to see when you will be able to leave.” He tells me before excusing himself and leaving Jay and myself alone. 

“How did you know I was here?” I ask looking over to Jay who was sitting on a chair near the bed.

“I went back to the farm and there was a couple staying there and they said that this is where you were, so I came as soon as I could.” He said looking at me in the eyes. I move over and pat the bed, he looks at me with a questioned look so I just roll my eyes and pat the bed again. He cautiously stood up and came and sat next to me, I grabbed his hand and entwined it with mine. Jay lent over and placed a kiss on the side of my head like he always does. 

‘What time is it?” I asked looking out the at the window. The only light that came through was from the moon that was rising in the sky. 

“Around eleven at night.” He said looking at his watch. I rolled my eyes.

“No,” I said dragging out the ‘o’ “I thought it was eleven in the morning, you know with the bright sun out.” I said shocked. 

“Still go you humor.” He replied. I nodded my head and sunk back into the pillow. A knock came from the door and I looked over at it. Dr. O’conner walked in holding a clipboard. He scrolled his finger down the page and then looked up and smiled at me. 

“Ok, so first off, whats your name?” He asked. I rolled my eyes but answered anyway.

“Abigail Rose Brown.” 

“How old are you?” 

“I am seventeen.”

“And last but not least, do you remember or know why you are in here?” He asked looking at me curiously. 

“Um, I don’t remember. Sorry.” I said before turning away from the doctor. Of course I knew what happened but I can’t just tell him that when I was at school some guy tried to kill me. Especially since I am pretty sure that the guy is working with Seth. I looked back at the doctor and he raised his eyebrow at me but didn’t ask any further questions on the matter. 

“Ok now I will check your temperature, your sight and so on.” He said. I nodded my head and he came over to the side of my bed. He looked at Jay’s hand which was still entwined with mine and smiled. He placed the stethoscope over my heart and listed for a couple of seconds before asking me to sit forward a little so he could do the same on my back. He wrote the records down and then placed the stethoscope back around his neck. He then pulled out a thermometer and stuck it in my ear, three seconds later he had my temperature. Dr. O’Conner did a few more test before leaving me and Jay alone again.
