I watched as trees went past as we drove further from home. Noah has tried many times to start conversations but I only gave one worded answers. We have been in the car for three hours so far and not even half way to our destination. We have only passed one town so far and just bout to go through the second one now. Welcome to Georgia. Read a sign as we drove into a small town. Houses lined the streets and small shops were in between then. The truck began to slow down and we pulled up in front of a bakery. Noah turned the ignition of and took his hands off the steering wheel.
“What do you want to eat?” Noah asked looking over at me.
“Can I come with you to see what they have?” I asked not taking my eyes off the road ahead of me. He nodded and we got out of the truck. Noah locked the doors and we made our way into the shop. The fresh smell of bread was in the air and suddenly made me think of how my dad would make fresh bread in the mornings when I was little. My breath caught in my throat and I tried not to cry. I walked over to the counter and looked at what they had on the shelfs. Cakes and pies filled shelf and I looked at them trying to find the best one to choose. I felt warm breath in my hair and I turned around to see Noah there.
“You can have whatever you want, no matter the cost.” Noah said smiling. My eyes went wide with shock and I turned back to the shelfs. Noah chuckled behind me from my enthusiasm, My eyes raked the shelf and I had made my decision.
“Ok, I am ready to order.” I said smiling up to Noah. We got into the line and waited for the costumers in front to get served. Our turn came next and we walked up to a middle aged man wearing a chiefs hat and apron. I smiled at him and Noah ordered what he wanted. Then he turned to me and I said my order.
“Can I please have a piece of chocolate mud cake, 2 jam donuts, 3 mini cupcakes and a loaf of bread.” Still smiling at the man he laughed but still got what I ordered.
“That comes to a total of $23.50.” said the man. Noah pulled out a fifty dollar note and handed it to him. I grabbed my food and Noah grabbed his. We walked out of the shop and back into the car, I hopped in the car and put my seat belt on. I waited for Noah to do the same and he started the truck and we were on our way. Once again.
I started to eat one of the mini cupcakes that were vanilla and chocolate mixed together. It was amazing. I left the chocolate cake until last seeing as it was my favourite. I sat it up on the dashboard. Noah was eating a sandwich that looked like it had some type of healthy food on it. I scrunched my nose up at the idea of healthy foods. I continued eating my delicious food, at last I only had the loaf of bread and chocolate cake left. Slowly I unwrapped the chocolate cake at took it in my hands. I broke a small piece off and dropped it into my mouth. The cake melted almost instantly, I took a big bite out of the cake and let it melt in my mouth. I ate the rest of the cake leaving me with bread later if I get hungry.
“How much longer is it until we get to the academy?” I asked Noah.
“About 4 more hours.” Noah replied. I groaned, I don’t want to spend that much longer in the car. The sun was starting to set in and the sky lit up with purple, pink and orange. As the sun got lower it disappeared behind the mountains, the sky faded into a darkness and now all I could see was the headlights on the road. I rested my head on the window and looked up into the sky to see stars filling it. I smiled knowing my dad was one of them. I looked for the brightest one and knew it was him. I smiled and continued looking into the sky. The back window shattered and glass fell onto Noah and I. I turned my head to see a bright headlights shinning into our car. Noah pressed down on the gas giving the truck more power. He made a quick left turn down a dirt road and floored it. The car bounced up and down from the holes in the roads making me feel sick from the sudden change of the terrain. Noah looked behind us and cursed, I turned around to still see head lights following us. More gun shots fired and Noah’s hand stuck out and pushed me down. Another rounds of shots fired hitting the tray, I wanted to turn around to check on my guitar but Noah kept pushing my head down when I tried to lift it back up.
