"Show me your eyes." Sam said and with ease I flashed my eyes blue.

"Freaky, but good job. Now, try the claws." He said and I held my hand out and looked at it, but nothing happened.

"It's just like shifting, just imagine it happening." Sam said and I just squeezed my eyes just tightly trying to do it, but failed.

"Hey, it's okay that's why we practice."

"Come eat, I made your favorite." Emily said peaking her head out into the living room.

"So, I know you don't like new people, but I think it would help you adjust to the pack if you met at least one of the guys." Sam said as we walked and sat at the table.

"I don't need a pack."

"Malia, we've talked about this." He said and I sighed.

"I know, but you don't want me in your pack."

"You're wrong." He said and I just rolled my eyes. I know what a pack means, and I wouldn't be good at it.

"I don't like making friends."

"How about we give her more time to adjust, or we start small like my cousins." Emily suggested and Sam just rolled his eyes.

"Your cousins aren't in my pack." Sam argued.

"It wouldn't hurt for her to meet them, let her warm up to the idea of new people in her life." Emily argued back and he just sighed.

"Leah hates me."

"Well, who's fault is that?"

"If she knows this is important to me she'll give her a hard time."

"No, she won't."

"Who's Leah?" I asked breaking up the bickering couple.

"Do you want to?" Emily asked and he nodded.

"It's Emily's cousin, who I dated when I imprinted on Emily." He explained, which just led to more questions.

"What's imprinting?"

"Well, it's like a life partner, chosen by our ancestors. It connects you to that person, to be whatever they need, a lover, protector, or friend, forever." He explained, and I let out a short laugh.

"I see why she hates you. Why'd you choose her cousin?"

"I didn't choose, our ancestors did." He defended.

"Well, that was a crappy thing for them to do."

"It was for the greater good." Sam said smiling at Emily, who still felt poorly for her cousin.

"What is imprinting feel like?" I said wanting to make sure I wasn't gonna be mated to Mike Newton for the rest of my life, just because I had hooked up with him.

"It's like gravity isn't holding you to the earth anymore, she is. She was the reason for everything in your life, everything had been in preparation for her."

"I don't like that, devoting everything to one person forever." I said and he sighed.

"Because attachment is foreign to you, which is why I want you to meet my betas, be around people who aren't going anywhere."

"I with you, and the Cullen's, and as long as none of you leave I'll be fine."

"I hate geometry, it's stupid." I complained as Bella and I walked through the parking lot of the school.

"I can lend you my notes." Bella said as we stopped in front of her truck.

"I probably wouldn't even understand those either."

"I can help you study." She said and I smiled.

"You'd do that?" I asked and just as I did I saw her eyes widened.

I turned and saw Tyler's van speeding towards us. It was like slow motion, my eyes connected with Edwards and flashed blue.

I grabbed Bella and pulled her down to the ground, Edward swooped over, and held his hand out stopping the truck.

I held onto his body and felt my claws begin to come out, he just grabbed my hand and squeezed it, taking the pain.

He jumped up and jogged away quickly, as someone dialed for an ambulance.

"Your eyes." Bella said and I just blinked rapidly trying to get them to stop.

They had Bella and I in the same curtained off area, I just sat on the table squeezing my hands together, unable to control my claws from coming out.

Chief Charlie Swan rushed into the room and immediately looked over Bella.

"Bells, are you alright?"

"I'm fine dad, calm down."

"I'm so sorry, I tried to stop." Tyler said from the bed next to us. He ironically had more injuries then us.

"It's okay, Tyler."

"No, it's not. You are lucky I don't rip out your throat..with my teeth."

"I'd let her." Charlie said and I snapped my head at him, as my eyes softened.

"How about you champ?" He asked and I shrugged. I spent a lot of time with him, answering questions when the Cullen's found me, he was nice.

"I'd be better if I could pass math." I said and Bella couldn't help, but laugh at her friend who always seemed to unintentionally make light of situations.

"My daughter and the chiefs daughter is in." Carlisle said walking into the room. I let out a breath of relief, that it was him.

"Oh, good." Charlie smiled, he always liked the Cullen's, no matter what the town rumors were.

"Malia, you can go ahead and find your siblings while I check Bella out." He said and I nodded jumping off the bed.

"Be careful, there's some kid from school out there asking for ya." Charlie said and I thanked him before walking out.

I saw in the waiting area Mike talking Rosalie's ear off about what had happened, while you could tell clear on her face she hadn't cared.

"Oh, thank god your alright." Mike said hugging me while I just stood in it stiff, while Rose held back a laugh.

"I should probably get her home so she can rest." Rose said and Mike just nodded repeatedly.

"Yeah, yeah. I'll see you, soon alright." He said and I gave him a reassuring smile before we walked over towards Edward.

"She saw my eyes."

"Great going you two, why don't you just show her your claws, and Edward can show off his fangs." Rosalie snapped sarcastically as I looked to my feet.

"Oh, don't act like you wouldn't of jumped in front to protect Malia. She was there too."

"This isn't about her, you did that for your human." Rosalie snapped just as Bella walked down the hall asking for Edward.

"Take her home." He demanded before walking over to her.

"I'm sorry." I said to her as we went to walk out of the hospital.

"None, of this is your fault. Edward isn't making adjusting any easier for you." She said now feeling bad.

"Alice wants to take you out to get some more clothes." Rose said and I groaned.

"I convinced her only one thing for that date you have tomorrow, it should be painless." She explained and I smiled.

"Thanks."
