Mike and I sat in his car outside of Sam's house. I was surprised he asked to meet with me, after everything.

"I have so many questions." Mike breathed out, the first words spoken to me since I watched him leave with Paul. I couldn't waste time. I needed to know what happened.

"What did Paul say to you exactly?" I asked, and Mike finally glanced over and made eye contact with me.

"He told me about the tribe and the whole shifter part. He mentioned imprinting, with you and him." Mike said glancing back down to his lap.

"Have you seen Leah yet?" I asked and he nodded.

"I stopped there on my way over. She answered some of my questions. I told her I'd be back, but I needed to see you first." He said and I nodded, looking down at my own lap now.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, his voice came out so soft, but I could tell he felt betrayed.

"I didn't know how to without exposing that Sam was a shifter," I said, and he nodded.

"If you had told me you were destined to be with someone else, I would have backed off. Malia, I'm not the guy who's going to keep you locked in a relationship when I know you could be happier somewhere else."

"Mike," I said, looking over at the boy whose eyes were now glossy. I had finally gotten a good look at him. His hair was messy, and the bags underneath his eyes led me to believe he hadn't slept well last night.

"Malia, I love you. I really do, and god it hurts me so much to know that the universe is literally telling us we don't belong together."

"Can I tell you something?" I asked and he nodded.

"Leah was with Sam before he shifted. He imprinted on her cousin Emily. It broke her in a way I can't understand. She deserves a guy who's going to love her, who will make her laugh, who will cherish every moment with her. I couldn't choose a better guy to do that if I tried." My mind lingered on the thought of Leah happy, like Sam and Emily happy. I would give Mike a thousand times over for her to experience that. I'd do anything for her. I tried to shake the funny feeling I felt when I thought about being selfless.

"You may be losing me as a boyfriend, but you're gaining a lifelong friend. I'm not going anywhere Mal, I'll still always have a love for you. I'll still always be here for you." He said reaching over and grabbing my hand.

"Thank you for being my first and thank you for giving me my last." He said squeezing my hand before letting it go.

"See you at graduation?" I asked and he nodded.

"I'll be the one in yellow." He joked as I stepped out of his car. A weight was lifted off my shoulders. I knew I still had to eventually talk to Paul, but that didn't have to be now. I walked through the woods and over the treaty line into the Cullen territory. I entered their home to find them sitting around a tv, with a news station on.

I knew something was up when their eyes stayed locked on the television. I just took the empty seat next to Esmae and listened to what seemed to have captured their attention.

Within a few moments, I gathered that there were a lot of differences in Seatle before Carlisle picked up the remote and shut it off.

"What's going on?" I asked confused at their recent interest in local news.

"Someone's building an army. We are going to have to do something." Jasper was the first one to respond.

"Okay."

"Just okay?" Jasper questioned a small smirk on his lips.

"Listen, I have bigger problems than a few baby bloodsuckers. You say we have to kill them, consider it done." I shrugged and Emmett glanced over interested.
