"Where were you?" Allie inquired as Maddy walked into the 1st year girls dormitory. She groggily looked up at Allie, and shrugged, trying not to show her surprise that Allie was awake since it was midnight.

In the Common Room, Maddy signed, Simon had a rough day. She grabbed a pair of Quidditch pyjamas Sirius had bought her and threw it over her shoulder.

"Is he alright?"

Maddy nodded, going to the bathroom to change and get ready for bed. When she got back, Allie was sitting on the corner of her bed, looking inquisitively at Maddy. "Maddy?"

Yes, Allie? Maddy asked as she sat on the corner of her own bed.

"You like to read, right?"

Maddy tugged at the hem of her Quidditch pyjamas, before nodding slightly.

"I have a muggle book series I think you'd like." Allie stood up, her nightgown scraping the ground as she made her way to the tiny bookshelf they had communially set up in the Common Room. Her fingers counted the spines before she pulled books off the shelf; one, two, three.

She dropped the first book into Maddy's hands, and Maddy flipped it around. It was rather thin, couldn't have been more than a hundred fifty pages, with a peculiar looking school on the cover. Sideways Stories from Wayside School was the title.

"Have you read it?" Allie asked quickly.

Maddy shook her head, placing the book gingerly on her side table. I've read a lot of muggle books, but most were older, since they were my dad's and grandma's.

Allie tucked the other two books under her arm, to point at the book in Maddy's hand. "That one was published in '76." She held up the second book, a slightly larger book titled Wayside School is Falling Down, "This one is from '89, and the last one was published last year. Sam and I bought it at the release." She smiled slightly at the memory. "We fought and fought over who'd get to read it first."

Maddy sat on the corner of her bed. That's nice.

"I've never read them but I know the author also published some shorts called Wayside Arithmetic. You'd probably like that, since you claim to be so good at maths."

I am good at maths. said Maddy, a slight pompous smirk tugging at her lips. Thanks, Allie.

"You're welcome," Allie paused for a moment. "It's okay if you can't read it right away, I know you're busy."

Okay

Allie went to the little candle they had lit in the corner of the room. "Can I blow this out?"

Maddy slowly nodded, and with a soft blow, she was plunged into darkness.

"Madeline Lupin, please report to High Inquisitor Umbridge's office immediately."

Maddy dropped a spoonful of yoghurt on herself as the announcement filled the hall. It was nearly eight in the morning, and the mail had yet to come, but gossip of Dumbledore's leaving and Umbridge being appointed as High inquisitor filled the halls.

Simon looked over nervously, tears glistening in his eyes. He muttered something that would get him in detention before saying, "I'm coming."

Maddy was already shaking her head, as she cleaned the yoghurt off of her dress. Make it worse. She signed quickly. I'll be back.

And before Simon could say another word, she was running down the hall.
