Fred and George stumbled into Maddy's room, doubling over with laughter. Simon shut his book, and put it on the end table, and Maddy shot up, looking at them curiously.
"Ickle Ronniekins! A prefect!" breathed out Fred, before collapsing next to Simon.
"A prefect?" Asked Simon, "Isn't that a good thing?"
"Haven't we taught you anything?" asked George.
Simon shrugged. "Who knows."
Mrs. Weasley must be pleased. Maddy stated. Are we doing something today?
"A party, I think." replied George, "For him and Hermione. I thought for sure Harry would get it."
I'm kinda glad he didn't. With everything going on, he doesn't need the added responsibility. School will be tough for him this year anyway.
"That reminds me!" Fred sat up. "We got Defence books, so that means they've got a teacher."
"I wonder who it is," muttered Simon to himself.
What if the teacher isn't nice? How will I communicate?
Simon gave her a reassuring smile, "I'll translate for you."
Maddy nodded. Promise me this, if it's a bad teacher, say exactly what I say.
"Exactly?"
Exactly.
"I —" Simon was cut off by the door opening, revealing Remus, who stood there was an unreadable expression etched on his face.
"Sorry to interrupt whatever trouble you're brewing, but I want to speak to Maddy quickly."
She stood up, stretching as she walked towards her father, out of the room.
Remus sat on the floor in the hallway, and Maddy followed suit. "Off to Hogwarts tomorrow, eh?"
Maddy nodded.
"Excited?"
More than ever.
"I know you'll enjoy it. But I have a spell I want to show you before you leave."
I'm already good at Lumos and Nox, and I can get really light things to hover for a second.
"This spell's a little different. And, it isn't taught in school."
Is it hard?
"Not too hard," he pulled a blank piece of parchment, ink, and a quill from a bag she didn't notice he had next to him. "Write something down."
Maddy took it, and laid on her stomach on the floor to write; Something down.
Remus rolled his eyes, but acted as if he hadn't expected any different from her. He pointed his wand at the paper. "Legere."
Suddenly, as if the paper was talking, a monotone voice said, "Something down."
Maddy's eyes widened. What was that?
"The reading spell. I used to use it all the time when you were a baby, and I was too tired to read to you. It's like the magical version of an audiobook, but it can read anything."
Maddy had only heard an audiobook once, at her grandfather's house a few years prior. She had found one from when her father was little, and listened to the fairy tale all night.
I want to try! Maddy pulled out her wand, which had been inside the pocket of her jacket, and tapped the paper. "Swearing dog."
Maddy cringed slightly, but bursted out laughing, causing Remus to join in.
