It was a grey, crisp morning in New York. I stood waiting for Peter at the subway wearing my purple coat and black beanie. It was 7:15. I spot Peter running down the staircase and he trips on his shoelace.

"Hey Em," Peter breathes as he runs up to me.

"What's with the hard breathing?"

He pushes his hair out of the way and breathes

"I- uh... ran here." He says.

"Peter you live two blocks away, the bell doesn't ring for another hour."

"Yeah I know I was just- uh... it was an um... frantic morning."

The notification alarm beeped on my phone. A news update flashed on with a picture of Spider-Man and a man webbed to a street light.

"Hey, isn't this just around the corner" I ask, showing Peter the picture on my phone. His eyes widened as the train pulled into the station.

" M-Maybe?" He replied as he frantically pushed me into the train.

"Hey! I live in Midtown already, I spend extra money for a train to Queens before school every morning, you'd better tell me what's going on" I said, looking at him.

Peter didn't respond. He simply smiled at me and offered me an earbud. I let a breath out and took it, I could never stay mad at him. He already had our joint playlist blaring through the earbud. Peter kept his head down over his phone, his head bobbing to the music. He was texting someone but wouldn't let me peek. We got our train stop and walked across the street to the school lost in our playlist, thoughts and Peter's text message when a loud car horn rang out making us both jump.

"What's up Penis Parker?" Flash Thompson yelled. He was sitting behind the wheel of his dad's fancy new car. The bumper of the car was only inches from us.

A few other students chuckled but I grabbed Peter and flipped off Flash. A few jocks reacted screaming "OHHHH" and "SHE TOLD YOU" after him. We entered the busy school and headed to our lockers. A drone flew around the crowded hallway as Betty Brant and Jason spoke on the local school news. We approach our lockers, side by side. Suddenly I feel a hand on my shoulder. I look over to see Ned holding an Emperor Palpatine Lego over Peter's shoulder.

"Join me and together... we'll build my new lego death star." said Ned in his best Darth Vader voice. I smiled and giggled.

"What!" Peter said turning around in surprise.

A pack of cheerleaders passed us, looking at us like we had just eaten worms in the hallway.

"So lame." They mutter, rolling their eyes.

"That's awesome! How many pieces?" Peter asked excited.

"Four hundred eight billion and five." Ned states "You guys want to build it tonight?"

"Absolutely!" I say.

"I can't tonight. I've got the Stark-" Peter started before I interrupt "Oh yes the Stark internship," I sigh. Peter looks at me, confused. Of all people, I should be excited, right? My best friend working for my dad, but no. It very very quickly took over his life.

"Yeah" he said quietly, dropping his head.

"Always got that internship." Ned adds.

"Yeah, well, hopefully, soon it'll lead to a real job with them." Peter replied hopefully.

"That would be so cool." I said, throwing my hands up.

He shook his head up and down, "Right?"

"He'd be all, "Good job on those spreadsheets, Peter. Here's a couple coins."" Ned says in a voice.
