Y/n's POV
Adam and Lizzy were coming home. They sent a letter, that only arrived a month ago, and finally there boat is arriving. In their letter, they also said they have some very exciting news. I have no idea what it could be. I think my parents know, but they wont tell me!
We got their room ready, they will stay here until their new house is finished. We're going to have Christmas all together! Lilly has been really enjoying school so far, she's got so many friends and she's really bright. She is probably the most excited for Lizzy and Adam to be home. She really missed her big sister, and as much as I am a big sister to her, it's not the same.
Everyone is practicing for the Christmas Pantomime, I think it's all a bit silly so I'm just helping Cole with sets.
I go outside for some fresh air and when I come back I see Cole on the floor and the ladder he was standing on completely toppled over and Billy's standing there with a plank of wood in his arms saying it was an accident.
"Billy! What did you do?!" I yell running over to check if Cole is ok.
"His wrist is definitely broken." Gilbert states as I sit down resting Cole's head on my knee.
"It was an accident!" Billy yells and one of his friends scoffs, telling me it wasn't an accident at all.
"My house is closest. Let's take him there and see what mother can do." I say to Gilbert helping Cole stand up. "It will be ok Cole, you're just in shock." I reassure him all the way to my home.
"Y/n, is that you?" Mother yells when we enter the house. "Dear, what happened, sit down, let me get some treatments." She states when she see Cole.
"Billy knocked over the ladder." I tell her as she places ice on his wrist.
"That horrid little boy. Are you ok dear?" Mother says and Cole nods a little.
"It's broken, you won't be able to do much for a while. We need a bandage and a sling." Gilbert states. Mother nods and rushes off to get some fabrics.
When she comes back we start to wrap the bandage around his wrist.
Mother gets all of us some tea and we sit and chat a little bit.
"Gilbert, as Adam and Elizabeth are coming home soon, I was wondering if you would like to come to Christmas dinner, your friend Sebastian may come too." Mother says.
"Oh, that would be nice, but we are actually having dinner with the Cuthberts." Gilbert replies much to my surprise.
"You are?" I ask looking at him with a strange expression.
"Yes, Miss Cuthbert seemed very interested in my travels."
"Oh, we'll need to have you two over some other time then." Mother smiles.
"We should get you home now, Cole." I say once we have all finished our tea. "Mother, can we take the carriage?" I ask and she nods.
I go outside to find father to set up the carriage. Once the horses are set and we get into the carriage Gilbert sets off. I decide to sit in the back so Cole can be more comfortable.
The ride is long and awkward. I don't want to talk so I just look at the scenery.
When we arrive at Cole's house we walk him inside and Gilbert informs his parents on the events of the day leading to his injury. They thank us for caring for him and we head back to the carriage.
"Y/n, sit up here with me." Gilbert says patting the seat next to him.
"I'd rather sit back here." I say not looking at him.
"Y/n, don't be like that. Sit here." He says taking my hand in his.
"Gilbert," I want to argue but I make the mistake of looking up at his eyes and eventually give into him.
"Isn't this nicer than back there? Y/n?" I don't respond. The carriage comes to a halt so I give him my attention.
"What was that?" I ask motioning to the horses.
"Why are you mad? You've been cold since I mentioned Miss Cuthbert. Are you jealous? You know better than anyone that I don't like Anne like that. But I do like you like that. I just didn't want to decline Miss Cuthbert's invitation." He smiles at me.
"You promise?" He nods. "Fine, now get me home." I instruct and we both laugh.
