Gilbert's POV

I go help on the house after breakfast waiting for y/n to show up, but instead, I see her mother.

"Mr Andrews, may I speak to you and your son please?" She yells so he can hear. What is this about? Billy runs down to the conversation. I watch and it gets a bit tense, Mr Andrews seems to be yelling as Mrs Y/l/n. That's when she walks away, but before she leaves she yells something. "Our decision is final! The engagement is off!"

When Billy comes back over to me he seems upset.

"What engagement?" I ask him.

"Between me and y/n, apparently they think it is no longer in their best interests. They even asked y/n what she thought and she was completely on board, can you imagine asking the girl what she wants? It's stupid." This kid is the worst. But that means y/n is no longer obliged to marry Billy.

"You know it is her life too? I think she should have a say in the matter." He looks at me with disgust and just goes back to working, maybe we will have some peace and quiet now.

After a while I notice that Billy is looking back at the ground, so I turn and look too, it's y/n and Lilly.

"She must be here to tell me that what her mother said wasn't true." Billy says going down the ladder.

"Gilbert? May we speak with you?" She says and I respond with a nod. Billy doesn't seem to get the hint and walks right up to them. That's when you hear Lilly.

"She said she wanted to speak with her handsome knight! Not you!" She yells and kicks Billy's shin. He walks away angry.

"Lilly! Behave yourself." Y/n says while also giving her a high-five.

"Yes, your majesty's ? You wish to speak with me?" I say bowing to Lilly.

"Tea will be at 2:00 on the dot. Don't be late." Y/n says sternly. But then she leans in to whisper, "be on your best behaviour, speak when spoken to, and you have to sit next to Lilly and Adam. No change in the seating arrangement. Talk about all your best qualities, but don't brag, and complement me a lot and my mother some times. Mother and Mrs Stuarts made the food, so direct thanks to them." She leans back again, "all you have to do is win over my parents, show them that you are worthy of my time. Then we can be friends." She winks a little and tries to walk away but Lilly pulls her back.

"Mr Gilbert, do you love y/n?" What did she just ask?

"Umm, yes, I believe I do." I tell Lilly, then look at y/n, she looks happy, but shocked, and terrified, all at once. So I say, "she has been an amazing friend these last weeks and I love her for that." She calms down a little.

Y/n's POV

WHAT DID HE JUST SAY? He loves me? What? Since when? So many questions are running around my head I don't even realise that we are home.

"Y/n, will he be here at 2?" Mother asks cleaning the lounge area for guests.

"Yes! He will be here and on his best behaviour for the love of his life!" Lilly says, why did I bring her with me?

"The love of his life? Maybe we have found Billy's replacement." Mother jokes, but I am just confused.

What happened to my parents? I walk up stairs to start getting ready for tea, without saying a word to my mother.
