FIVE AND I HAD TELEPORTED a few towns away to check places we haven't yet. We were pleasantly surprised to find that many of the buildings are mostly intact. We were almost done when Five spoke up from a few feet away.
"Y'know what I could kill for right now?" Five said randomly.
"The world?" I ask cockily, making him give me a look.
"Yeah, but no," He said in thought. "I really want a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich."
"Really?" I furrow my brows. "Were they really that good?"
"Definitely," He replies, shoving something in his pocket.
I hum in response as I go back to looking around. So far we found some wine from an old wine cellar, some personal hygiene products ( like pads, bandages, etc.), and a blanket that has a small hole in it, not that we care.
It's not often we come across items in good condition, so we take what we can get. I also found a red sequin scarf that I'm going to give to Delores. She loves sequins.
"I think we should head back. We can continue tomorrow," I tell Five.
"Wait," He stops me. "I..." He starts but trails off. "I've been wanting to tell you something," He says nervously.
"What's up?" I ask, giving him a skeptical look, having noticed his change in emotions.
"Well, I-... Y'know what? Never mind. It's not a big deal," He scratches the back of his neck as he sighs.
I nod, not wanting to pressure him into telling me whatever he was going to say. I hold out my hand for him to grab, ready for him to blink us back to the abandoned library. He places his hand in mine as I close my eyes, prepared for the familiar feeling of teleportation.
Seconds go by and I open my eyes to notice we haven't moved. I look at Five only for him to be gazing at our intertwined hands. I drop my hold on the handle of our wagon and step closer to him before grabbing his other hand. "Hey, you okay?" I ask softly.
He looks down at me as he opens his mouth to say something, but nothing comes out.
"What?" I look up, into his green eyes. He takes a step closer and leans down a bit so that our foreheads are nearly touching. "Five?" I whisper. "What are you-."
"Shh," He pulls one of his hands away only to gradually raise it below my jawline. "I just... wanna test something."
I stay silent, now aware of the close proximity of our bodies.
"Can I kiss you?" He asks softly, looking into my brown eyes.
Say what now? Am I having another stupid dream again? I pinch my side with my free hand. Nope. I definitely felt that. Not knowing how to respond, I lightly nod my head.
He leans closer, our foreheads touching as our lips are centimeters apart. He hesitates. Unable to contain myself, I close the gap.
Even though our lips were both slightly chapped due to dehydration, the kiss felt soft, comforting, and above all, satisfying. I never knew how much I needed this moment to happen until now.
Our lips move together in sync as I raise my hand and tangle my fingers in his long hair, deepening the kiss. He doesn't pull away as he takes his other hand out of mine and wraps it around my waist to draw my body closer to his.
We get caught in a lip lock as our bodies press together, both of us breathing deeply.
He pulls away suddenly.
"What- what just..." I stutter in confusion as I notice I'm a bit dizzy.
He bites his lip as he looks down. "I don't know why I did that. I probably just ruined everything. Now, everything is just going to be awkward. I'm so sorry," He rambles as he takes a step back and runs his hands through his hair.
