Reassure (Jay Halstead x OC.)

As Jay's Car pulled up outside the Gallagher residence a an air of familiarity fell over him. He looked over at the girl in his passenger seat and smiled back at her as she thanked him for the ride home.

"You're still living here huh?" He asked and she shrugged, "on and off, I have my own apartment but it's kinda shitty so I tend to stay here when I need to." She replied and he nodded. "It's been a while hasn't it?" Jay mumbled and Reignlet out a small giggle, "longer then a 'while', Jay.....it's been what?.....7 years?" She quickly calculated the time.

"It's insane." He nodded. "Look Rei.....I'm really sorry we lost touch I-."
"I am too Jay....really." She spoke sincerely at him, a thoughtful look coming to her deep brown eyes that he'd missed.

There was a pause, one filled with a lot of unspoken feelings that neither seemed to be able to share, until Reign took a deep breath, ran her ringed fingers through her waved brown hair and looked up to meet his bright forest eyes.

"When you were deployed I...." She stuttered, then took another breath.... "I knew getting in touch would be hard and with everything here at home, me and Fi now being adults- I had to step again and I.....talking to you was all I wanted to do.....you were my best friend Jay, I just........the thought of calling you." She hesitated again.....but he reached over and squeezed her hand over his gear-box and she relaxed into his touch.

"It reminded me of how much I missed you and how worried I was....I didn't know where you were, what you were doing- if you'd even be alive to get my next call or letter.....and it, it broke me down......I couldn't talk to you cause I was afraid it would be the last time I did." She revealed a sad smile coming to her face now. "I'm just so glad you're alright.....that you made it home."

"I'm glad too, hey.....hey Reign look at me......I'm just glad I got to see you again. You did really well for yourself.......I hope we can get back what we had.....be best friends again." He told her as he grasped both of her hands in his now.

"how about I take you out tomorrow night? dinner? We can catch up?" He offered and she sighed making him think for a split second he was about to be rejected, "well I'm on shift tomorrow night but breakfast sounds great on Saturday morning?" She suggested and he smiled even wider. "It's a date." He joked and she laughed along.

"Hey Jay?" She spoke as she was just climbing out of his car. "Yeah Rei?"
"Thanks for following me outside, tonight.....I've missed you."

"And I've missed you too Rei.....have a good night."
"You too."

And then she was claiming out of his car and closing his door, climbing the front porch of her old family home and before he knew it she had fished her key from her purse, shivering as she did so in only her thin leather jacket, dress and heels. Then he watched as she moved inside and just out of his view. He laughed with a big childhood smile as she poked her head out one last time, her chocolate brown waved bouncing around her face as she did so, waving as the door closed to the house and he started up his car. He waved back until she was completely out of his sight.
