↳ going back to the future

steve stared at her for a long time. the worry never leaving his face. and then suddenly he had stepped forward and engulfed her in a tight hug.

he stroke her hair and when he let her go he left a kiss on top of her head.

"it's really you?" he asked hopefully

"yes" she assured, before she grabbed his hand. "where are we, steve?"

"that I can answer you, but how is it possible that you're here?"

"I don't know, but I'm scared, I'm glad I found you"

"it's okay" he touched her shoulder to calm her down. "I'll explain everything to you, once we got home, we just have to wait for stark"

"oh" evi said. "steve can I ask you something else?"

"you can ask me everything"

"it's been a long time since you've seen me, hasn't it?" she smiled sadly

a single tears slipped down steve's cheek. "yeah" his voice broke a little

"how long? what year do we even have?"

"2023 so it's been 8 years"

"is she okay? wanda is she alright?" evis question sounded like she was pleading him to tell her something good. she had known how dangerous her and her siblings lives had been, she assumed wanda was still helping the avengers, if she was still alive.

steve hesitated and that gave evi all the answers she needed.

"what happened?" she cried, the black mascara smudging even more

steve felt like this moment happened before. years ago when he had to tell wanda that her siblings had died. she had reacted the same way.

"it's been five years" steve said "half of the universe was sacrificed by thanos. we fought him, but we couldn't stop him"

"what about vision?" evi asked.

steve just shook his head.

evi sunk her head in sadness. "banner, nat and clint?"

"they're fine" steve answered, happy to have atleast one good information.
"we're trying to bring everyone back, that's why we're here, we have to stop thanos from getting the infinity stones, with them he'll be unstoppable. it might work, evi. I have a good feeling about this"

"so you build a time machine?" evi seemed a little less sad through his reassuring words.

"yeah..." steve mused

evi turned around and looked at the people next to them. "oh my god, are you fucking kidding me?!" she exclaimed, slapping her hand to her mouth just a second after. "I'm sorry you told me not to curse"

she looked around herself again. "where are we" she paused "no, let me re-phrase that question: when are we?" she wiggled her fingers in the air, trying to imitate a clock that was turning backwards

steve laughed at her antics. "it's 1970"

"oh my god, this is just like in back to the future" evi beamed
"also i can't believe that most of the people I loved... my- my sister are gone but stark of all people made it? is the universe playing 'let evi suffer' again?"

steve chuckled at her outburst.

"no really, stark has to make it through every catastrophe, ok lucky but then an alien kills half the universe and he's still alive?!" she thought for a short moment and then stomped with her foot "how unfair" she screeched

steve chuckled again and with a stretch of his arm, evi was in his arms again. "I'm so glad, you're okay" he said, pressing a kiss onto her head.

"I'm glad you are" evi smiled, leaning into steve.

they both were so caught in the moment that they did not hear stark approaching behind steve's back. "I've got it. we can leave" he said

both evi and steve turned around. stark began to scream as he saw who was standing infront of him

"ahh the demon creature" he bellowed, hands around the briefcase, pressing it to his chest.

"nice to see you too, stark" stark trembled at her cold voice, the accent tripping from her tongue like honey, more like poisoned honey, in that moment it was as if wanda was standing in front of him.

"i told you it wasn't save" stark had turned to look at steve

"what?" steve asked, utterly confused.

"time travel" stark pressed the back of his hand against his forehead in worry. "i should've given it more time, check the calculations again"

"if there's something we don't have than its time" steve stated.

stark didn't even listen to him.

"the effects could be tremendous, it starts with seeing dead people and later you slowly lose your mind" his eyes grew big as he looked from evi back to steve. he looked like a maniac

"are you talking about me?" evi laughed, mockingly and sounded more like her brother than ever.

"i think he is" steve shrugged

"wait" said stark "you can see her too?" he looked between the both again

"...yes?" Steve answered, but it sounded more like a question

"are you sure?" stark doubted

steve just send him a tired look. "stark stop playing around, we have to go back"

"i'm not playing around, shared effects! do you know what that means?"

"i'm not an effect, i'm real, stark!" exclaimed evi, her patience coming to an end. she reached out and touched starks arm, who shrieked and jumped back in surprise

"you are?" he asked, still not entirely convinced. "i am" evi assured

"okay now that we've cleared that up, we can leave" said steve, reminding them both, that they did not have much time left

"alright" breathed stark, looking around the camp. "i guess lang left alone"

"he was supposed to" said steve

"he was? okay great" mumbled stark "we both should take maximoffs arm, so she can come with us, we can not leave her here, the effects would be -"

"tremendous, yes you've already said that" interrupted evi, now growing bored at the men.

"why would we leave her?" asked steve, confused

"doesn't matter" stark shrugged and pointed at his bracelet. "i say we go now"

the both grabbed onto one of evis arms, while steve counted to three.

everything around evi seemed to dissolve until only herself was left, standing in a room full of mirrors? she couldn't quite point out what it was, it wasn't particularly bright, but also not dark enough, to not see her own reflection.

she walked closer to the glass. the evi in the mirror imitating her actions. she raised her hand, millimetres from touching the glass, and then, suddenly the room was gone and with it the mirrors.

she wasn't even in a room anymore to be exact. she was standing in a park. new york, definitely not 1970 tho.

normally she had just assumed that steve and stark had landed in a building a few minutes away from her, but something wouldn't quite fit.

she couldn't point out what exactly felt off, or if anything even did, but suddenly she had the answer.

as she turned around, trying to pinpoint where she should go, her eyes landed on a little paper stand, where the newest edition of the new york times was laying. she walked closer, her heart skipping not only one, but about a thousand beats.

the date on the paper was not 2023 like steve had said.

it was june 2018. thanos had yet to come
