↳ that was all he could ask fortw: mentions of death and wanting to die
it had happened slowly, she knew that it never came fast. not when you needed it too atleast
she pleaded that it was peaceful. that it came like it had known her before. soft and warm and without pain
that it would take her away gently, bringing her back where the others were waiting impatiently. then they would only have to wait for evi
it wouldn't take long she presumed, although it creeped up slowly, like it would want to scare you, it always tried fo be fast, when it had started
she hoped that it would know who she was and be a bit gentler than it was with evi.
she reckoned it would happen any time, and just as she thought that it wasn't coming- it was creeping up behind her again
not behind evi but wanda maximoff
with the slow breeze of the wind, evi could not only feel it, but hear it too.
wanda maximoff took her last breath, while it - while death encased her softly like he had met her before.although he tried to be, he wasn't a friend. more of a watcher. and maybe that was were he had recognized her from
the rusted bed and the hole in the floor. the destroyed furniture, and there in all the rumble, she layed. long brown hair, a bit curvy, like her mothers. face soot stained, trembling breathing.
wanda maximoff had never looked younger and more like herself.
scared - the moment under the bed, before he decided if he should take her, if that soul was finished now, of if he would like to see more
at peace - the moment in the forest, fingers brushing over visions body, wishing nothing more than to be gone too
death was never one to decline a wish.
he had recognized her from the bombing. and when little wanda maximoff, the girl he could still see in that grown woman, asked him to take her with him, he had to wipe a tear and nod at her request.
he had reckoned it had been enough for her. after all the times he had met her and turned to look the other way, too generous to watch her go, she had finally reached her breaking point.
he had left her be after iryna and oleg, lovely people he had to admit, they had begged them to let their kids stay, so he obligated.
after pietro, who had told him about his sisters and how their was nothing more important than to let them stay
after evina. little evina who had sobbed and begged him to bring her, just inside her head, not understanding what she was doing in that moment.
he had made it slow, not to torment her, but to give her a chance. a chance to stop him. it pained him, just like it did her. but she wanted it so badly, so he nodded at her request, like he would always do when he was asked to
and he had hoped that wanda would stay, she had made it through all that, not just to give up after all. he didn't want her to
so when death arrived in the forest, he kneeled down beside vision. caressing his beautiful soul and sending him off in peace and taking his soul into his hand to bring him over.
he had looked up, and that was when he saw her. she looked older, more grown up, but he has recognized her immediately.
he knew it technically wasn't possible, but he swore that he could feel his heart break, when he saw wanda maximoff.
for the fifth time.
when she saw him, he had known immediately what she would ask of him. and he sighed
sometimes it was hard to be him. especially with souls like wanda maximoff
"are you sure?" he had asked her
she had nodded, while another tear slipped down her cheek. "there's nothing left"
"don't say that" he had tried to comfort her. he had tried before, but wanda maximoff was no one you could just comfort with some nice words, for that she had been trough too much. death knew that too
so he knew what she meant when she looked at him, like he had to know best that there truly was nothing left for her.
but death knew that that wasn't true. somewhere, not here but just a few galaxies away, evi maximoff was trying to get back to her sister.
he had heard her screams and he had let her go, that happened rarely. and he was glad that he did
wanda maximoff couldn't know that though, how could she? and it wasn't like death could tell her. there was only so much he could say. that's why it sometimes happened fast and sometimes took longer, that were the times were he wasn't sure or were the people so dearly wanted to stay.
like iryna and oleg maximoff. they had wanted to stay so badly, their hearts filled with so much love. but as it was with the words, there was only so much death could do. and sometimes he had to do what he could best.
take souls.
pietro maximoff had been a fighter too. crying and kneeling in front of him, pleading. death had really admired his heroism. he had taken a bit longer to bring him away, at least a little to let him speak to one of his sisters, before they had to catch the train.
that's what made it hard. it was never easy. sometimes death wondered how life would be without him, but when he felt sad or bitter about himself, he thought about the way he would cross paths with people he had met a few times.
and he thought about the times that he was generous and gave into the pleading, that helped him a bit. but then he felt saddened when he crossed those lonely souls. lonely souls like wanda maximoff was one.
but he presumed that it was him, who made life valuable, not because he had such a high opinion of himself but, because people would treat their life as something precious, something that ends.
of course often times it wasn't their fault that he had to take them, but mostly all of the times the people had made the best of the short time they had spent on earth. that was all he could ask for.
he knew that wanda was right, she couldn't take it anymore. but he just loved her too much to let her go just know. that did not happen often. but those times he was sure that there was something inside of him, something good, something hopeful and maybe also something caring.
so he shook his head and looked at the girl. "there is something left, something you dearly want to see"
he had snapped his fingers and she was dusted, that was the least thing he could do.
just before he went to leave, together with visions soul, he turned around one last time. and there, far away from where he stood, he could see evina maximoff looking at him as if to thank him for what he did - sparing her sisters life, even though she had asked for death
he nodded at her and he swore when there really was something caring in him, he could feel his heart flutter a little of relief and hope, when she smiled at him.
that was all he could ask for.
