"SO YOU HAD SOME SORT OF breakthrough with Yuji, he opened up to you about his ex, you guys said you'd date the other--"
"We said we'd date people like us,"
Kayo deadpanned, staring at Megumi with a blank expression, "Uh huuuuhh...but you now proceed to avoid each other. What is this? An American middle school?"
Megumi was at a loss for words. He had no defense to Kayo's conclusion. She was right, he was being a bit childish and immature by avoiding his crush after an almost-confession. But could she really blame him? Sure, Megumi had the cool composure of a brick wall and he seemed unshakeable, but the boy was a nervous wreck.
"Gods you are such a LOSER!"
"You're one to talk," Megumi muttered.
"EXCUSE ME?"
"You're telling me that I should make a move and just hurry up and kiss the boy, but what about you?!"
Yuta found it quite entertaining to watch Megumi raise his voice and Kayo respond with the same energy. It was a daily ritual, after all.
"What about me?!" Kayo squawks, playing dumb.
"What about you?! You're pining from afar too, if not worse than I am! When was the last time you spoke to Inumaki-senpai, huh?"
"This isn't about me, Fushiguro--"
"No no, he has a point," Yuta interjects. It was about time he split this petty squabble apart.
"You're siding with him? Ganging up on me like that, Okkotsu?" Kayo's voice cracks a bit, her cheeks flushed from frustration.
"No...not exactly," Yuta knew the implication of Kayo using his last name. He didn't want the wrong idea to get to her, "But both of you are in similar situations. It's obvious that your love interests have some sort of mutual feeling for you. So technically, you're both losers," he says simply, taking a bite out of his food.
"Love interest? What is this? Shojo?" Megumi retorts, trying to hide the red on his ears.
Yuta smirks, "Oh no. This is definitely worse than those twelve-episode romance animes,"
"You're high," was all Kayo had to say as a form of defense. She went back to her lunch and ate quietly.
