FRANTIC KNOCKS CAUSED KIYOTAKA Ijichi to make his way from the kitchen and to the front door.
"Hey, Fushiguro-ku--" Kiyotaka stopped midsentence, his eyes widening.
Before him stood Megumi Fushiguro-- but seeing his current state, Kiyotaka knew this wasn't something he should get involved with.
He stepped from the door, opening it enough to allow the boy inside.
"Th-thank you..." Megumi sounded like, well, shit. His throat tightened as he tried to speak, his eyes threatened to spill their hot tears.
Kiyotaka sighed and nodded, "Kayo is in her room,"
Megumi nodded, slowly taking off his shoes and making a beeline for the room at the end of the hall.
. . .
"I'LL MURDER HIM--," Kayo's face was contorted in rage. She wasn't just mad, oh no, she was pissed.
Megumi clung onto Kayo, holding her back. His cheeks were smeared with black and tears. Kayo's shirt was also now streaked-- quite literally becoming a shoulder for Megumi to cry on.
"Kayo please!" Megumi choked as he held the girl back from committing premeditated homicide.
Kayo ultimately gave up and sat back down defeated.
"Man..." she sighed heavily, wrapping her arms around the boy in a motherly way. She rubbed his back, "I'm sorry,"
Megumi shook his head, "It's not your fault," he mumbled.
"But I can't help but feel like it is! I'm the one who was..." she stopped herself, surely if she continued she would expose herself. But her best friend was hurting, he deserved to know the truth, "I was the one trying to set you two up..."
Megumi remains silent, still processing everything that had happened.
"I never thought Itadori was like this," Kayo says quietly. She had genuinely trusted and believed Yuji with his feelings. He was an honest and caring boy, she thought. He wouldn't go back to his ex, he didn't seem like the type. She was wrong apparently, she believed.
Silence covered the two for a few moments.
"I don't want to...I don't know if I can go through with the trip..." Megumi finally says. His voice was meek and small, his bottom lip quivering. He clung to Kayo like a lost child.
"WHAT?" Kayo pulls Megumi away, gripping him by the shoulders. "YOU CAN'T-- WE HAVE TO! I-," her voice cracked, "I ALREADY BOUGHT MY SWIMSUIT!" She slumped over in defeat, clinging onto Megumi hopelessly.
"Seriously?" The boy deadpanned.
Kayo sniffled, "It's nonrefundable..."
Megumi shook his head, "He's going to be there. I'm sorry Kayo, but I'm not going on that trip."
. . .
Kayo, Megumi, and Kiyotaka stood in front of the Ijichi's home, luggage in hand, waiting for Gojo to come to pick them up.
"I can't believe you're making me do this," he narrowed his eyes at Kayo as she stood next to him; a large pair of sunglasses on her face, and a wide-brimmed beach hat on her head.
"It'll be fun! It's a large group of us so it's not like you're going to be stuck with him the whole time. Plus, some vitamin D won't hurt you-- you're too pale," she shot him a toothy grin.
"I hate you,"
"No fighting during the trip, my blood pressure is high enough as it is," Kiyotaka gave Kayo a warning look.
Just as he says that, the sound of screeching tires causes them to turn their heads.
"Please don't tell me Gojo is driving," Megumi muttered, praying to whatever deity was around and listening.
"No. Nope. Absolutely not," Kiyotaka stated, crossing his arms as Gojo pulls in front of them. "Gojo, for the love of your mother, give me those damn keys right now," he marched over to the driver's side.
The sound of Gojo's familiar laughter and Kiyotaka's scolds fill the air as the two friends board the ride.
In the end, Kiyotaka was able to wrench the keys out of the white-haired man's grip, who now sat shot-gun defeatedly.
"Okay," Kayo's brother adjusted the rearview mirror, "let's go pick up the other kids."
And at the thought, all Megumi could do was sink himself further into his seat.
